Canes general manager Jim Rutherford and a sizable management contingent are in Traverse City, Mich., for the rookie tournament, and Rutherford is laying out some pretty thick praise for first-round pick Jeff Skinner.
There's still the rookie tournament and then the Canes' training camp, but judging from Rutherford's comments Skinner appears to have an inside track on making the roster this season. All eyes will be on him at camp, that's for sure.
The Hurricanes' team opens tournament play Saturday at Traverse City against the Minnesota Wild prospects at 3 p.m. The Canes won last year's prospects event.

No known TV coverage.
Fri, 09/10/2010 - 17:35 — Otag1No known TV coverage. Tournament is not listed at NHL Network or Versus. No TV coverage in Traverse City that I could find. I believe the NHL has the rights for broadcast. When I asked the Network if they would cover the event they never responded. I guess they prefer to show past NHL playoff games, and VS prefers fishing and dog shows. Shame they do not do a better job promoting this event for us hockey nuts, live hockey is always better. Even early AM tv time would be worth it, they could al least show the finals.
