The Canes today reassigned defenseman Bryan Rodney to Albany (AHL).
Rodney was recalled Dec. 15 from the River Rats and had three assists in three games, including wins over Dallas and Florida. He now has five assists in 10 NHL games with the Canes this season.
Defensemen Tim Gleason and Niclas Wallin have been sidelined with concussion-type symptoms. Canes coach Paul Maurice said Gleason, who has missed the last three games, could return for Monday's game against the New York Rangers.

Sun, 12/20/2009 - 17:22 — Hockeydogor they fire Tripp Tracey and put A Ward in the booth with Johnny F. On a more realistic note I agree. It does nothing, now or in the future to play him and not give a player like Rodney valuable seasoning for next year. The ideal plan this year would be rotating the Rats who will likely compete for jobs up here next year between Albany and Raleigh. Gives them looks at the NHL but also keeps the Rats in playoff contention. End result is the rebuilding process is ahead of the game and the AHL'rs get valuable playoff experience at the pro hockey level. Exceptions could be players like Rodney who are at this time clearly better than the alternatives and should just stay up and play, then go help the Rat in the playoffs. Dwyer is maybe starting to make a case for himself as well, but the forward ranks are too crowded and less a trade or a forward put on and claimed by way of waivers he won't survive both Cole and LaRose coming off the IR. I would like to see a plan in which Dwyer, Tlusty, Boychuk, Samson, etc get some looks up here. With the cap as it is and trading partners scarce this may not be a possibility, but that should be a goal the GM is constantly working towards- Unless the Canes run off a few W's and show they may be alive.
Time to Sit Aaron Ward
