Defenseman Joni Pitkanen will return for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, coach Paul Maurice said today.

Pitkanen has been out with a lower-body injury. Defenseman Bryan Rodney has been reassigned to the Albany River Rats (AHL), Maurice said.

The Canes had a limited practice today, with just five skaters and goaltenders Manny Legace and Justin Peters.

AGREED WITH CTILL

I think ctill is right. Rodney will definitely be back but JR will have to spend some money for that.

corvo now hated

I predicted he would be the next villian ,,,and for reasons not associated with his play, he said what JR said and what is the truth , we got rid of two defensemen and replaced them with two that were a definte step backwards, all the facts back this up ...Im sure that someones opinion will say differently though

I too

about had a stroke when Joe Corvo allowed to be robbed like that...and man...i too would have a few confidence problems If I had played like he,A.Ward & Wallin have... tomorrow is yet another day...and i am going to listen to the rats game tonight... Be safe everyone..........Go Canes !!

Rats Update: Rodney is a healthy scratch for tonights game against Manchester

He'll be back

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the injuries on the blue line. Pitkinen has been in and out of the lineup all season.

Keep Rodney ... send Corvo

Something needs to wake up Corvo. He was terrible last night vs the Leafs. His turnover gave the Leafs their first goal. And he reapeatedly missed and blew easy passes, to anf from. Sloopy and careless all night. His playing attitude needs a JOLT. Wish we could threaten him with an assignment in Albany and keep Rodney up for a while.

ON the other hand

Corvo earned an assist on Cole's game-tying goal. He didn't have much time to get off a shot, and he launched a good one.

Corvo

I heard some commentary on the internet by John Forslund in which he said Corvo was fighting confidence issues.  Corvo had two really bad plays.  I was livid with him for the first giveaway.  As the game went on, he was obviously horrified at what he had done and was trying to remedy the harm his turnovers and missed defensive coverage caused.  It must be hard to be in his shoes with an expiring contract and with consistent talk that he would be traded.

Corvo

One of the reasons Corvo was happy to leave Ottawa was the Canadian media scrutiny he was under when he struggled, they're very unforgiving, somewhat similar to scrutiny the NY Yankees face year in year out. Corvo's a streaky guy that has confidence issues, I think as he's gotten older he's done a better job of fighting through it and has found ways to stay productive. Unfortunately, as a defensemen that plays big minutes his mistakes change the balance of a game. Despite his gaffe last night, I was pleased with how he hunkered down and finished the game well.

With Corvo, Wallin, and A

With Corvo, Wallin, and A Ward as free agents next summer, Rodney will definitely be back. JR will have to throw RFA qualifying money at him, though.

Understandable

I liked Rodney. We'll see him again some day. But with cap and budget limits, if Pits is ready to go, Rodney has to go down.

I know some of us would prefer to see, uh, maybe AWard sit instead, but that is a no-go.
