The Carolina Hurricanes officially recalled goaltender Justin Peters from AHL affiliate Albany Tuesday.
The move comes after starting goalie Cam Ward suffered a groin injury in Sunday’s loss to the Anaheim Ducks. To make room for Peters in the roster, the Canes moved injured defender Tim Gleason to injured reserve.
Gleason, out with a leg injury, missed the last four games.
Peters will backup Michael Leighton.
The Canes drafted Peters in the second round of the 2004 NHL entry draft. The 22-year-old is 3-7-2 this season with the River Rats. He’s allowed an average of 2.79 goals per game with a .911 save percentage and a shutout this year.
In 59 career AHL games, Peters is 20-28-2.
