With an NHL lockout looming Saturday at midnight, the Canes  have placed 11 players on waivers for the purpose of assigning them to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL).

Placed on waivers today, general manager Jim Rutherford said, were: goaltender Justin Peters; forwards Zach Boychuk, Chris Terry, Jerome Samson, Brett Sutter, Tim Wallace and Nicholas Blanchard; and defensemen Bobby Sanguinetti, Marc-Andre Gragnani, Brett Bellemore and Justin Krueger.

If not claimed by an NHL team, the 11 would be assigned to the Checkers. Other Charlotte assignments are expected Saturday.
