SUNRISE, FLA. — The Florida Panthers hold on for a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canes tried to attack in the third period but couldn't pull the trigger.
After the game, the NHL changed the ruling on Peltonen's second goal. The NHL gave Gregory Campbell credit, saying
Peltonen's shot touched Campbell's leg on the way into the net.
Hurricanes 2, Panthers 3 (third period):
Peltonen gets his second goal of the game, skating out in front from the right corner and putting the puck past Leighton's right shoulder at 17:42 mark of the second period. ...
Less than two minutes later, Chad LaRose ties the game. Eric Staal's shot from in front of the net trickles out and LaRose puts it in at 2:13. ...
The Canes waste no time in the second period getting on the board. Tuomo Ruutu puts in the rebound of Sergei Samsonov's shot at the :25 mark. Ruutu was right in front of the net. ...
Lots of empty seats at BankAtlantic Center. ...
Hurricanes 0, Panthers 2 (first period):
The Panthers score again, bringing a quick sequence of shots that allows Ville Peltonen to put the puck in from in front of the net off the rebound of Radek Dvorak's shot. Dvorak had fired from the left wing at 15:45. ...
The Panthers get on the board first. Nathan Horton drops the puck back to David Booth on the right wing. He fired, putting the puck past Michael Leighton at the 7:04 mark. The Panthers had already missed a few opportunities before that. Horton couldn't get a hold of the puck earlier. And then Leighton gloved Ville Peltonen's shot, the Panthers' first of the game. ...
Patrick Eaves and Tim Gleason scratched from the lineup with injuries. ...
Here's the Hurricanes starting line: Tuomo Ruutu, Eric Staal, Sergei Samsonov, Dennis Seidenberg, Joni Pitkanen. Michael Leighton in the crease.

Good point, XPUKGUY - hockey
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 15:38 — figaroGood point, XPUKGUY - hockey is a passionate sport with passionate fans (just read the comments below) and we need a writer that shares our passion. Luke had gotten there. Now, during this dismal season, we just get the facts fed to us with bland quotes. If there ever was a time to shake things up with some written barbed wire, now's the time. Step up to the plate whenever you're ready, Luke.
you are missing something
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 17:01 — rmmeliYou are missing one important point. The reports in the N&O are there to fill the empty space between the adverts.
Let your voices be heard over the airwaves
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 15:49 — xpukguyA major issue is that whenever hockey is actually discussed on the radio, there is no venom, no passion, no hard-core criticism like there is regarding college football (NCSU is the best team in the state? What about App St.?) or college BB (should Tyler play or not? Does Coach K really hate Roy and vice versa?).
The Fan is horrible regarding hockey because their talking heads are afraid to be critical. The Buzz is OK but the conversations don't last too long before the subject is changed because no one wants to call.
So, if this area claims to be a hockey area, then put your collective money where your mouths are and speak out loud and proud.
That's funny
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 18:08 — mumsyb13On the way into work this morning, 99.9 goons talked college sports and then proceeded to spend a whopping 5 minutes talking about the Canes-that this is a mediocre team with nothing but mediocre players, that there are no great (or good) players on our team, no Ovechkins, because apparently he is better than Crosby and Malkin put together (reading between the lines). Ovechkin has been around for a while and now all of a sudden he's the best there is and everyone else is a joke. I guess the Caps lost again also. 99.9 is a joke. If I were a Canes player, TV play-by-play announcer, etc. I would never call in to that station or go to their pub crawls every few weeks. After listening to their expert discussions, I have come to the conclusion that 99.9 doesn't employ anyone that knows about the sport or its history-they should skip the pre-game and post-game because it's just another excuse for them to release more of their own hot air. Just like this blog... Back to 850.
Fear
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 16:05 — CanarseThere is a reason the Fan and other sports talk guys area easy on the Canes....fear! JR and the organization has given the cold shoulder to sports personalities that have been critical in the past. Ask Adam Gold.
We need all of these comments
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 15:13 — xpukguyAt some point, the powers that be will actually take the time to read these comments. However, without Luke on the beat and competition with the N&O, there will be no public outcry because college bb has started and college fb is winding up.
You have a beat writer who never breaks anything controversial even though he is spoon fed everything and his backup who covered the Florida name can't get the opposing players' names spelled correctly.
2006 really seems like a figment of all of our imaginations. Please, we need media that will hold this team accountable.
I find it beyond
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 14:21 — figaroI find it beyond comprehension how a professional athlete cannot give a 100% performance, considering the amount of money they're being paid. And to bring this thought within the current economic times, this is comfortable, gauranteed, "recession proof" money. I've recently had to take a pay cut and I've had to lay off valuable employees. It's too bad that a professional athlete doesn't have to face the day in and day out economic issues the rest of us do during these tough times. Perhaps if that were the case, they would give the effort worthy of their pay. Sure, coaches are fired, players are waived, but they typically are still under a lucrative contract that has to be paid out. The current state of the 'Canes work ethic (which has been building for 2 years now) is inexcuseable. The dollar is valuable to all of us now, and this franchise will pay the price of this team's seemingly effortless play in the form of a rapidly dwindling season ticket base. I am still a fan, and still have season tickets, but a CONSISTENT effort better materialize soon, or they've lost me.
Effort
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 16:03 — CanarseSo many comments about effort. It is frustrating to watch a team sleepwalk, but all teams do it. They HAVE to do it.
Have any of you been to a D1 college hockey game? It's so different. Everyone finishes all their checks. The energy is like the playoffs nearly all the time. The difference in the NHL is 82 games and a ton of players over 30. You can't play like you're in college for 82 games. The bodies won't take it. The injuries are already constant and if they played every game like the playoffs they would need 2 teams of players.
Every team has slow nights it's just that the good teams can win anyway. Whether it be with talented scorers or great goaltending they win anyway. The Canes don't have talented scorers or great goaltending, so they do not win unless they are playing in top form.
The reality is until this team has better players they won't win. The main players from the Cup year, except Staal, are on the downside of their careers; older, slower, more easily injured. It's time to blow this team up.
good point
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 16:54 — rmmeliThat is an excellent point. Maybe the Canes can put an asterix in the schedule against the 42 games when they wont be trying so we know not to turn up.
time
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 12:02 — irbefanI think it's time that this team starts playing like something is on the line. When we won the Cup, we had to start the season off well to regain trust and support in the fan base after a long lockout. Our team was rumored to be in the market of relocation. Our players seemed to be playing, no fighting, for the team to stay in Raleigh, for the fan base to come out to the game, and to prove themselves to the rest of the NHL. The season after we won Stanley, we had massive amounts of injuries and some of the blame can be placed on that, but we had nothing to fight for. The team had experienced the ecstasy of winning the ultimate prize for the first time and had nothing to "prove" to the NHL and the fan base. The season after that was considerably better (towards the end that is). While our team had it's fair share of injuries (understatement) players learned how to fight trough them and some guys took more of the load without question. One fluky game stood between us and the playoffs and it seemed as if the team was again trying to prove that the previous year was a fluke and that they were indeed a powerful and feared team, a force to be reckoned with in this league.
Please Canes, get over yourselves. Most of the Cup team is gone now. This team was projected to finish third in the Southeast this year, eleventh in the conference. You guys are slowly becoming the laughingstock of the NHL again. Remember a few seasons ago when this team finished last in the league in goals and points. I for one don't ever want to see that happen again to my favorite team. Someone needs to step up and turn this program around and it needs to be soon! It's time to start pointing fingers. Patrick Eaves was brought in here to be a potent 20-25 goal scorer. He has 1 goal while wearing the Hurricanes crest and that was a tip-in last season. Rod Brind'amour is a two-time Selke winner not a minus 14 forward. Ray Whitney is a terrific forward and great point producer, but he should not be leading this team in points. Eric Staal (injury or not) should have twice the amount of points as he does. Sergei Samsonov is just now starting to play better so he is off the hot seat for now. Cam Ward is still not playing like Martian Gerber did in the first half of that Cup season. He has the potential but refuses to take that next step. Joe Corvo and Joni Pitkanen and Matt Cullen for that matter should be firing the puck at will on the powerplay.
Thumbs up to Brandon Sutter, Tuomo Ruutu, Ray Whitney, and Scott Walker up front; and Dennis Seidenberg, Niclas Wallin, and Tim Gleason for being acceptable defensemen for a team that hasn't seen one since the Aaron Ward days.
time
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 14:14 — buffalo66thIrbefan. That is really well-said and by far the most intelligent comment on the board.
Here's one that's not nearly as intelligent (but that's what most of these comments are...)
Canes have a potentially decent first line with Williams/Staal/Whitney. B'A should be third line with Walker and Samsonov and for lack of a better solution: promote Sutter with Ruutu and Cullen on second line.
We can all try to play the coach here, but right now Canes are too small and too slow and look to be about an 85 point team regardless.
Thanks Buffalo, I must say
Wed, 11/26/2008 - 00:15 — irbefanThanks Buffalo, I must say that I am flattered. I guess that is what going to school for Journalism gets you. I agree with most of your points, but I must say that Brind'amour on the third line might not work. As the lines go lower in depth, the more physical their players are expected to be. In my opinion, Brind'amour has looked aged all season, someone who is letting age catch up with him. I do see your point with Walker on that line though. Maybe, a tough force like Scotty could provide a little more room for Roddy to skate around. It worked for Jari Kurri and Gretzky..At this point, I feel like Ruutu will improve anyone's play if he changes lines.
Good thinking!
We need a middleweight
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 11:57 — dustinlammersWe need a middleweight enforcer on our team who can fight "non-heavyweights", because more often that not, it's those guys going around with reckless abandon making these hits on our stars and would never fight Brookbank to account for it, at least when LaCouture was on the team we had that.
Walker has been too valuable since he returned to risk him getting hurt in a fight again. Seeing as Brookbank doesn't play past the first period it wouldn't hurt to bring Conboy back up and let him patrol the fourth line. At least in that case Conboy could go after Ballard and make him accountable for the hit, because we all know he wouldn't drop the gloves with Brookbank. And really the players on these other teams might actually drop the gloves and as opposed to just getting pummeled by Brookbank which in turn always generated an instigator penalty.
Brookbank is not the answer
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 13:23 — Puckin_awesomeBrookbank is not the enforcer that we need, regardless of his size. He hasn't busted a head all season. Most of the time, he just takes some shots to the back of the helmet and then brings it to the ground. Fighting only has a little to do with size. The rest is skill. Otherwise, Babchuk (6'5", 212 lbs) would be a bad-a$$. Once Walker broke his hand, we lost our only decent fighter. Actually, his presence was downgraded after last years soft-tissue, rib injury. Even so, his smaller size limits those who will scrap with him, as well as those with which he will pick a fight. 1-2 seasons ago, I liked the fact that we didn't have a meat-head enforcer on our team. Unfortunately, every team we play now knows this and is taking advantage of the situation. It's time to get a chin-splitter. Brookbank isn't the answer.
Enforcer
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 15:54 — CanarseGet used to Brookbank. He has a one way contract. Brilliant!
ballard hit
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 11:38 — mumsyb13He knocked Brindy on his back not long before the Pitkanen hit. Again, legal or not, nothing is going to be done when something like that happens to our team (by the league). Islanders players were whining over the weekend about one of their players getting hit and the other guy only getting a 1 game or whatever suspension. I saw the replay-it looked like the guy barely made contact-their player was not knocked unconscious. Ballard was aiming directly for Pitkanen and he (Ballard) was obviously not trying to get to the puck. Someone should have gone after him when he flattened the captain-but we don't need Walker breaking his hand and LaRose/Bayda are already the only ones finishing their checks (and they are among the smallest on the team). Gleason was already out of the game, Corvo is the butter on the team (and the absolute laziest player ever), and Wallin gets griped at by our "fans" during home games when he goes in the box for roughing or whatever. Maybe they're afraid of the instigator rule-it would definitely get thrown at this team. Maybe we don't need 2 coaches behind the bench. I can't see that the team is playing any differently than the last 2 seasons with the guy brought up from Albany taking up space behind the players. Or, someone has an offer from another team and is trying to get fired.
Changes needed
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 11:37 — galatians220We can't wait much longer to make changes. We let go of Maurice on Dec. 15th back in '03, & that proved to be too late to turn the season around. We can't be lulled into complacency due to the fact that we are still close to the division lead. In another down year for the Southeast, we have to plan on winning our division in order to make the playoffs. I really wanted to see Laviolette turn this thing around, but the effort for 2 & 1/4 seasons has been consistently lacking. It's certainly not just the coach- I see very little leadership & accountability on the ice- but I'm afraid Peter has lost the ability to motivate this team. His style of hockey thrives on skating/energy/attack, and when you don't possess these characteristics, you can't be successful. We are fortunate to have the record we have given our play thus far, but when you make it come down to the wire, the season can slip away very quickly as we've seen before.
too many issues
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 11:31 — HockeydogWhile the team did put out a better effort than Sunday's game, there are still multiple issues with this team.
Brind'Amour is a shell of his former self. If he's still hurting he needs to go to IR. Other than face-offs he's not helping, or even noticeable out there right now.
Team play is awful. Lack of chemistry is one thing but you should be able to throw 5 random pro hockey players on the ice and get something after a couple of shifts. There are game plans but the game itself doesn't have so many variations that 5 complete strangers should look as bad as this team does sometimes.
This team doesn't accept it's lack of size/strength and plays a game along the boards that they can't win. But due to comment above they have no other option.
Goaltending has been spotty. Players have to play in front of the goalie but at the NHL level a goalie has to make the timely stop.
Coaching has to find a style of play this team can succeed at. When players are running into each other something is wrong. Players are either so tight they don't know what to do anymore or there is no trust /teamwork.
Jim Rutherford brought in players like Cullen and Whitney post lockout anticipating the way the new NHL would be officiated. And it worked in grand style as the Canes won the Cup!
But size/strength is back in the NHL. Teams have players who are stronger and just as fast as the Hurricanes. This team needs some size.
I think that we should get
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 10:18 — DANNYMC24I think that we should get rid of them all. I like how Tampa Bay's coach is now(sorry dont remember his name) if you don't produce on the ice the you sit. Seems fair to me. You need to earn your spot out there. I didn't think that the game was that bad. There are things that we def need to change i.e PP and getting people in front of the net and STOP THE DUMP AND CHASE. Every team we play knows what we are going to do and that is emabarrasing.!!!! WE NEED SOME CHANGE, whether it be with the player or the coaches or both. Something needs to happend SOON or we can kiss the playoffs good bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the Canes but I don't like how they are playing right now. Roddy is not being the captain that he should be and no one else is stepping up. Trade em all if they continue. Sorry just ranting right now, but they need to do something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last Loss to Florida
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 09:08 — WAStoutRemember the last loss to Florida? We should have fired Lavi after that one. I'm sorry Lavi...thanks for the Cup, but just like my job...what have you done for me lately? My wife calls me a sore loser...my response: I don't mind losing as long as there was some effort there. To play for 10 minutes a game is unacceptable and falls on the shoulder of the coach. And it's not rocket science...ride the horses that are actually giving everything they have...i.e. Rutuu, LaRose, Walker, etc.
Team play?
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 08:10 — rmmeliWhat seems embarrassing is that the overall team play seems pretty much non-existent. We have players falling over themselves, checking each other, running in to each other...crazy. We can't hold the puck for more than a few seconds as no one seems to know where anyone else is. Then out comes the dump and no chase tactic both on 5 on 5 and on 5 on 4. The power play is devoid of any power apart from passes around the outside. Inconsistent goalies. The team seems to lack motivation to play more than 10 minutes of up tempo hockey per game.
The games are incredibly boring. Even watching Forslund try to make it interesting isn't working. Luckily I have Center Ice so I can switch over to watch the Capitals play. At least they look like they want to win.
I hate to say this but Brind'Amour looks like a mere shell of his former self. I know all about the injuries but he now looks too slow for a second line center.
Last night
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 07:03 — esteban1949Was not a totally pretty game. we had chances, yet we failed. From the highlights I got to see on the news...I saw 2 things that ripped me.
1: the Hit although from a reverse angle turns out to be a "legal" hit, should have fired somebody up. maybe insread of Dywer JR should have called Up Gillies, or Acoin, both know how to defend a teamate.
2. We had too many around the goal causing Leighton to miss a gaol as we didn't clear it out and the panthers played pick up the garbage...and stuffed it in for a goal. Plus we were flat and slow during period one...Maybe it is time to go back to the morning skate and NOT pass it off anylonger...they are sitting around too much..Heck i'd be sluggish too!
Sutter is coming into his own....In time he will be a force to recon with. He and Rosie did a good job, not a great job, but a good job.
Go canes ??
Acoin?
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 08:49 — biggssalvatoreAcoin is 5'6" and signed with Washington in the offseason. Not sure that he would have been able to help......
Sorry Biggssalvatore
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 15:21 — esteban1949I ment Conboy...as last season...Conboy,Acoin really helped putting a few people in their places...not like some of the milk toast his I heard Chuck K talked about last night. And i had to laugh too,as and while Acoin did have decent stats with the Rats...you should see how he has "taken" off as it were when he plays with the hershey bears...he's all over the place and shooting all the time to the Net...gee he must be getting hungry to get up and stay up with the caps !! Thanks for pointing out my " error"...Happy Thanks Giving to ya & the Family
More Excuses, More Losses
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 06:41 — abramsdougIt's deja vu for the Carolina Hurricanes. Another November where critical points are given away. Another month filled with games of spotty effort. Another month of games where Carolina losses to some of the worst teams in the NHL. Another month of post game discussion where the players and/or coach observe there was not a 60 minute effort. Here's a radical concept: why not find a coach who can inspire a 60 minute effort? Isn't two and a quarter seasons of unemotional, lax play sufficient proof of a need for a change? Don't the fans deserve a team that is organized, determined, and committed to 100% effort every game?
TIME FOR A BIG CHANGE JR !!!
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 01:23 — ynotagainNovember is slipping away, just like it did last year. Hey JR ... are you going to just watch it like you did last year OR are you going to do something this year ? Something BIG has to be changed NOW. A coach, a big player in or out, a BIG SHAKE UP NOW ! SEND A MESSAGE ! Or, we just keep doing the same mediocre thing and miss the playoffs AGAIN, for a 3 year streak. And if that happens, my 8 year season ticket streak will end too. The last 2 games were wins given away, since the Canes didn't show up for either game, except for a few minutes. Embarrasing !
Ultimate Authority
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 10:45 — CanarseYou do need to consider that JR won't make a change that isn't approved by the owner. Laviolette has 2 years remaining on his contract.
Change
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 10:08 — WAStoutWell said...Tampa Bay didn't waste time. Why should we?
waiting.....
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 10:27 — rmmeliThe Canes are waiting to see how Rutherford feels....
Feeeeeelings...woah woah....whatever
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 10:31 — WAStoutSomebody wake him up....10:30 EST and they still haven't made a change?
Such A Lack of Chemistry!!!!!!!!
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 23:52 — lmit61I'm so tired of watching my beloved team play let's dump the puck & hope we can retrive it before the other team does. I watch alot of hockey & while I understand dumping the puck for a line change most other teams pass the puck to oneanother while charging the opponents net! Oh but not the Canes.... we just dump & hope for the best. Hey JR & Pete... Its not working to well for us! Seldom is there anyone in front of the net to get a rebound shot. I will say we play four corners better than Dean Smith's teams of years past! It seems no one wants to take a shot at the net. I see such a lack of chemistry it breaks my heart! I love this team, but the past couple of games have been a train wreck!!! As a season ticket holder I'm begging you JR do what ever must be done to turn this team around and do it like yesterday!!!!
I feel the exact same way!
Tue, 11/25/2008 - 11:24 — hurricanes17Nice post, lmit61. This team is definitely not any better than the team of the past two seasons. Fans are becoming more and more frustrated. How much longer do we have to watch this team just go through the motions?
The Canes have done nothing in 2+ seasons to excite this fanbase. I don't expect them to win the Cup every year, but I do expect them to show up and do everything within their power to win. That is what I am paying for, and anything less is a rip-off. The organization has parted ways with fan favorites like Cole, Stillman, Commodore, K. Adams, Gerber, and A. Ward, and they are obviously not adapting their strategy to become more of a contender in the ever-changing NHL.
I attended Sunday's disappointing loss to Nashville. The total team effort was so poor that I was wishing I had stayed home. I hate feeling that way because I love this team, but it is incredibly disappointing when they exhibit that type of lackluster performance in front of their home fans. If the team expects to play in front of a full building, they had better start playing like they actually care.
Also, when this team allows points to slip away to teams like Florida and Atlanta, something is desperately wrong. We MUST beat the teams in our own division if we expect to make playoffs. A major change needs to happen right away.
1. # of hits don't matter
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 23:52 — smhockey1. # of hits don't matter when Bayda/Brindamour/Staal/others bounce off of their checks. Size Counts! 2. D' lacks some depth, poise, and "stoppers". Back checking mediocre. 3. 3rd line would be a good 4th. 4. 4th line ineffective. Sutter shows promise. 5. Joni takes a head shot w/no reaction. You think the players don't take notice?? 6. Coach must be on a short string.
two more points given away
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 22:16 — rmmeliAnother two points presented to the opposition. Presumably they have decided they don't need the points while Washington are losing as well. An average team playing average hockey. No sense of desire to win whatsoever.
zero chemistry
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 22:05 — Vthis team plays like none of them have ever met before.
Embarrassing
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 21:53 — Nico37Legal or not, it's embarrassing that Pitkanen is hit like that & there's absolutely no response. Nothing. Nothing at all. How telling that is. You don't need Brookbank out there; another guy - any other guy! - should have responded to that.
I'm even more embarrassed that Brent Sutter is witnessing this display. I can only imagine what he thinks of this soft as butter team...*shudder*.
I've held my tongue for a long while now, but I'm disgusted. Mr. Karmanos allegedly reads everything on the web related to the Canes so I hope he sees this: your GM has built the softest, smallest, most apathetic team in the league. Congrats.
Oh, and b/c it just can't be said enough: Tripp Tracy is a fool. "Babchuk has had a good couple shifts." Well, bless his heart, I know we're all proud of him! I mean, honestly, that kind of remark is NOT helping.
Perhaps I'll be calmer in a little while...but I have to say, I'm beginning to emotionally disengage from this team. I'm a season ticket holder that never once before considered giving them up - but I feel myself starting not to care anymore...
I'll give you the fact that
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 22:19 — CanarseI'll give you the fact that it was a bad time to retaliate to the hit on Pitkanen, but there are things you can do that usually wont get you a penalty. No one even looked at the guy sideways. This team is extremely soft. The Canes did hit a bit after the first period, but you really don't think they dominated the game physically?
The first goal on Leighton was definately soft. The second one kind of was. Still, the Canes didn't even show up in the first period. They played aggressive for 10 minutes in the second and tied the game. After that they cruised to a 3-2 loss. At the end of the game Florida had the jump, not the Canes.
The Canes looked slow and stone handed for much of the night. I could barely stand to watch the Whitney-Brind'Amour-Walker line tonight. UGLY!
Perhaps they were more
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 22:06 — IggyReillyPerhaps they were more concerned with trying to win the game than retaliating and drawing a penalty. That hit to Pitkanen WASN'T legal, but it wasn't called, and any retaliation from the Canes would've resulted in a PK at the worst of times. Perhaps you should save a rant about how soft the Canes are for a game where they don't actually out hit the other team? Canes had 34 hits to Florida's 25.
I think this team has been very soft at times....but I think you need to take a deep breath. They played two good periods of hockey and are only on the losing end because Leighton let two in he should have had.
Ah, OK
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 22:21 — Nico37So that would be the same level of concern displayed the rest of the game, correct? Because that would be approximately 10 mins worth of hockey, certainly not 2 periods.
The "official" hit stats are great! Does that make a difference in the outcome? No. And if I saved my "rant" (???) for a time the Canes were outhit - uh, OK, that'll be day after tomorrow.
Don't get on my (or anyone else's, for that matter) case for daring to critisize this team; I never come on this blog nitpicking any little thing. As I said, my post is the result of a lot of built up frustration. I've been a season ticket holder since we played in Greensboro; I drove 2 hours to see them play (as many others did) b/c I love hockey so much. I have supported this organization through the absolute worst of times.
So please, save your superiority.
Right....I was throwing out
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 22:41 — IggyReillyDeleted my comment....this isn't going to go anywhere. I disagree that tonight was such a horribly played game....and I'm done now.
(PS. some of us still drive 2+ hours to support this team, so don't accuse me of acting superior and then spout off with that nonsense.)
Go Canes
Argh!! Soft goal
Mon, 11/24/2008 - 20:18 — muhmanLeighton let's in a soft one. Pitkinan made sure he could see the play and he still miffed the save by being too deep in the net.
I am a Leighton fan but not as a starter. I hope the other Canes team shows up for the second period.
BTW: It's pretty obvious Staal is hurt. He is getting powered off the puck.
