According to this report in the Ottawa Sun, Frantisek Kaberle is under consideration by the Senators to shore up their depleted blue line.
Now just because it was in the Sun doesn't make it so, but it indicates that there would be at least some interest in Kaberle if the Canes decided to trade him -- and it looks like they're going to have to trade someone on defense unless Pete Karmanos opens his wallet before Opening Night.

I guess Ottawa is no longer
Tue, 07/08/2008 - 15:26 — wjcampI guess Ottawa is no longer interested in Kabs...since they just signed Jason Smith to a two year deal worth $2.6M a year.
arbitration
Sat, 07/05/2008 - 17:12 — SunLaRose has elected to go to arbitration, correct?
Correct.

Malik > Kaberle And that is

And that is saying something.
The 2 year playoff absence cleansing is on !
Fri, 07/04/2008 - 17:54 — gparodyThere was no hunger left in the Canes belly after winning the cup. It is time to move on. The Frank dump allows the Borer, Conboy, Carson, Seidenberg group to come into play . Wesley, Hedican,Kaberle, and Wallin have prevented any growth. These guys need the time now or next year we will be without Babchuck and Melichar and again looking for D-man. If we are not going to play at the cap, Albany has to contribute or we will be a non-factor.
For the record, Frank is a decent player and in the right situation will help someone else out.
I don't think it had
Fri, 07/04/2008 - 20:23 — ctillI don't think it had anything to do with hunger. Try telling Brind'amour or Wesley eyeball-to-eyeball that they weren't hungry and see what happens. Pro athletes in the NFL and NHL aren't doing it for the money; it's too hard and too risky. These guys do it for a mix of joy and ego. A case could be made for money motivation in the NBA or MLB by some players but not all.
Why were the Canes flat? Exhaustion was one reason. Not knowing how to play as champs (a position most of them hadn't been in since junior hockey or university days) was another. Adjustments in the league that evened out the Canes advantage in speed, breakaways, etc was another. That's still true, by the way, and so JR is making the team bigger and stronger... could be another reason why Larose isn't signed yet. That's not to say he won't be signed, but he wasn't on the top of their list.
Kaberle trade
Fri, 07/04/2008 - 17:24 — Anonymous (not verified)If we don't have the money to sign the people we've got, why would we want another player? A draft pick is surely the likely result.
Kaberle
Fri, 07/04/2008 - 17:01 — Remkin (not verified)I hate to say it, but after Kaberle's performance over the last two years, I would be thrilled with a pure salary dump, and knowing that he will not have to be played due to his salary, since he will be gone. This will truly be addition by subtraction. Though, unless he returns to form of the 06 season, Ottawa may never trade with us again.
Kaberle
Fri, 07/04/2008 - 15:21 — Anonymous (not verified)It will be interesting to see what we get. Maybe a fourth line type player if we can't sign LaRose. If not, maybe the Canes could use some hand sanitizer so that they can maybe avoid getting the flu
Yeah, careful with those
Fri, 07/04/2008 - 14:40 — JimFleadh (not verified)Yeah, careful with those Bruce Garrioch NHL scoops. His average is sub-Mendoza.
trade
Fri, 07/04/2008 - 11:42 — salim919 (not verified)any ideas on what we might get in return? hopefully something other than picks.
