Oilers hire Canes scout as assistant coach

Bookmark and Share

Ralph Krueger, a part-time European scout for the Hurricanes and a former coach of the Swiss national team, has joined the Edmonton Oilers as an associate coach.

New Oilers coach Tom Renney knew Krueger from his frequent stints as Canada's coach in the World Championships. Krueger stepped down as Swiss coach after the Olympics.

The Hurricanes drafted Krueger's son Justin, a Cornell defenseman, in 2006.

For a period of time, Krueger was the Hurricanes' only Europe-based scout, until former Hurricanes forward Robert Kron was added to the staff on a full-time basis in 2008.
