Monday debate: Game 7

The Hurricanes won Game 6 against the Devils. Now, can they win Game 7?

The Canes have never won a Game 7 on the road, in the other team's building. But they did beat the Devils in Game 2 at the Prudential Center and it took Martin Brodeur's best to beat the Canes 1-0 in Game 5 at The Rock.

Question: Will the Canes win Game 7? Why or why not?

The floor is open.

Canes can win

We need to come out flying though - don't sit back and NJ take the play to us, the 1st 10 minutes will be crucial, if we can keep them off the scoreboard we have a great chance.

Ward obviously needs to be sharp and the Staal line has to get at least one goal, don't take any stupid penalties and keep Cole off the ice as much as possible - in game 6 he just floated around not doing much of anything.

If we get a few goals from

If we get a few goals from the overdue guys--Cole, Ruutu, Samsonov, Corvo, Babchuk, and Brindamour--then we'll win, otherwise, a toss-up.

Canes will win

I know the Canes will win Game 7. As I have been listening to the crowds in New Jersey they are loud, but not really. I want Maurice to start the game with Ruutu, Cole, Walker, Gleason, and Corvo. For the first mintues of the game just go out and hit and hit some more to take the crowd out the game and make New Jersey scared like they were last night. Staal will score two goals again with Brindamour scoring the game winner 3-2 Canes. GO CANES!!!!!

Since a lot of this depends on the lines

With all the talk about getting the forward lines "just so" with little room for error in this incredibly tight series, does the fact that we will have to send out our lines first and allow Sutter to pick his matchups make a big difference when we're in Newark? Or are we past that now?

Go Canes - keep this train a-rollin'! (and to think I have to root for the Rangers - I think Boston going to bring home the cup this year - if our boys from NC falter.

Boston ?? Really ??

here i thought if the Canes were to win and go to round 2 they'd be playing Pittsburg. i based that on looking at the verses TV Chart lay out hmmm maybe we need to ask Chip or go to the NHL.Com and see...

Go Canes !!!

Man, after reading your

Man, after reading your comments over the past year I thought you knew everything about hockey.  I will save you the time of searching this on nhl.com or waiting for Chip.  The NHL always has the lowest seed playing the higher seed after each round.  The only way we are  going to face Pittsburg is if the Rangers find a way out of their meltdown and beat the Caps tomorrow.  Fun, huh?

Yo Bobannon

while i am a advid fan, but, i am by no means the ' preverbial expert...and to be honest...i wasn't sure or aware they could, would or might suffle things around as you said they will...i did send Chip an email...but seeing i just got home, from taking a sick friend to the hospital, i haven't checked me mail as of yet...i am sorry that my warts and flaws are all there for you and all to see...And trust me If we do play the rangers...I feel we'll do even better...and yes...that would be "fun " !!!

have a great afternoon & week...

Go Canes !!!

They re-set the brackets in Stanley Cup Playoffs

I understood that the top seed will always play the lowest remaining seed in the 2nd round. Boston (#1)will play either #7 the Rangers or #6 Carolina. Pens play who ever is left.

Brackets in the Stanley Cup

It is my understanding as well that the brackets are reset after each round; but I could be mistaken.  It would argue for a Go Rangers, I think.

brackets reset

You are correct.  the brackets are rest after each round.  Since seed #1 (Boston)  and seed #4 (Pittsburgh) have already advanced, it remains to bee seen which team will play. If Washington beats NYR, and the Canes beat NJ, the Canes will play Boston and Wash will play the Pens.  If NYR beats Wash and the Canes beat NJ, NYR will play Boston and the Canes will play Pitt.  god forbid that the Devils beat the Canes, but if they do and Wash beats the NYR then Boston will play Pitt and Washinton will play NJ.  The highest seed always plays the lowest remaining seed in the NHL playoffs and the higher seed has home ice.  When the Cup finals occur if the seeds from the conferences are the same (i.e. both 1 seeds or both 7 seeds) then you go by the tie breaking procedures (most points, head to head, etc.)

Canes are the better team

As the series has gone on, the Canes have figured out how to play against the devils. If the Canes can continue their energy on the forecheck and keep up their physical play and get the Cullen/Ruutu/Cole line going...the Canes win! They need to come out hard and get the crowd out of it early.

Canes best beats Devils best

All being equal the Hurricanes are a better team. The team that handles the moment better will win. Game 7 is do or die for both teams, but I think there is more pressure on the home team in a game 7. As Eric Staal has answered the call, let's ring up Eric Cole. He has played hard, so I don't think it's a matter of effort, but at some point he needs to find a way to help out on the scoresheet. No idea if he's playing hurt or not but maybe Mo might consider reuniting Cole with Brind'Amour and sliding Walker up. Scotty has had a LOT of jump.

my prediction

confucius say

canes win if goals is more than our opponent within time allowed.

that is all

confucius also say

GO CANES!!

skate, skate, skate

The Canes have a speed advantage. It showed in the last two games. The Canes seem to have learned the avoid the Devils aggressive forecheck and are getting the puck up the ice with speed. The Canes can out skate this team. Canes Win Game Seven!

Canes

Since the mid-way point of the second period in game 5 Carolina has been giving it to NJ and haven't stopped. I think if they can carry over the momentum from game 6 they'll have no problems icing this one.

Go Canes

First goal wins Game 7. If the Canes come out skating like they did Sunday night, if Cam Ward allows no softies, and if Maurice can get the Stahl line out against the Parise line, the Canes win Game 7.

Forslund commented last

Forslund commented last night on the fact that the Canes may be the better conditioned team and the Devils appear to be wearing down since they rely a ton on the likes of Martin, Parise, Madden, etc to play alot of minutes. If the Canes roll those same 4 lines on Tuesday as they did in game 6 and skate and work as hard as Sunday, this series goes to the Canes on depth alone. Both teams will want to secure the first goal and take control early...if you get the work ethic of the past 2 games from the Canes and Ward continues to do what he has been doing, then I love the Canes chances to advance.

Win

The canes will win game 7.

I think they played with just as much intensity in game 6 as they did in game 5, the difference being that Marty Brodeur can only have so many impossibly good games. I think if they bring the same intensity as their past two games, they win game 7 in NJ.

To esteban: You're sounding a little sarcastic when you say "...Fun huh ??" Not sure why; YES, it is fun! It's the whole fun of sports!

Fun ??

My point was that if & when the canes advance, they have either another long hard fought series against the pens or a quick 4 and out,As they have and will have fresher legs than the canes will. but then again the pens could have a lot more rust too...hehehe...but you have to admit, as much fun as it is for us fans...it's still a hard and long road for the players...whom i have a ton more compassion for...even though the lowest paid player makes more than we do...Have a good week...

Go Canes !!!

Absolutely Can

The Canes absolutely can win game 7 in NJ if each team member lays it on the line again like they did last night. Outstanding team and individual efforts last night. GO CANES !

IF The Canes

Go an play as they did in game 6 in game 7 they go on...if they don't...break out the clubs folks...period...Keep the line ups the same as they were ...tweak as the game progresses...but if and again IF the canes win...then it's on to pittsburg...and honey...it starts all over again...Fun huh ??

And it was funny that verses had PBR on instead..and the owner looked pretty sleepy as he yawned during the last period last night... or he was very confident one or the other...

Go Canes !!

"but if and again IF the

"but if and again IF the canes win...then it's on to pittsburg..."

Actually, it seems more likely that the Caps will win than the Rangers at this point. If so, and IF the Canes win, it will be on to Boston for them.
