The Man aint dead
Thu, 07/01/2010 - 05:59 — esteban1949Just going to be doing something else and not wearing a 'sweater' that many of us fans were used to seeing...so until then...let's look at what the man can yet again offer the Canes & the roster members as what he can and will offer is and will be priceless! But that's how i see things
Go Canes !!
Many great memories
Thu, 07/01/2010 - 00:06 — scomilI just always think of Roddy in his firm stance taking the face-off. There was noone better and to me that stern, focused face-off stance tipified his game. Nobody on the ice had better focus or concentration. I always loved the way he acted when he scored a goal, and that look he got on his face when the other team scored when we shouldn't have let them. He had the ability to turn things up a notch when needed and the team and everybody in the stands would follow his lead. As a Canes fan, I'm grateful that he's not going anywhere else, and that he'll continue to be a team leader right here at home, along with Ronnie.

Wed, 06/30/2010 - 19:39 — ncsurveygirlHe is just such a classy, hardworking guy who has accomplished so much with Carolina. But without a doubt my favorite moment: June 19, 2006, seeing him lift not only the Stanley Cup, but the entire Caniac nation!
Rod
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 20:58 — ammy144I must agree. I watched my DVD of the 2006 Stanley Cup games "again" last night and the absolute joy on his face when he lifted the cup was pure magic.
Memories
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 17:59 — SWFAN24Pretty simple, the pure emotion of his face when he lifted the Cup.
My greatest memories of Rod
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 17:24 — galatians220My greatest memories of Rod as a Hurricane will always be the way he willed this team to the Stanley Cup in '06. He scored the big goals at the big moments and deserved to win the Conn Smythe, as he was undoubtedly our MVP during those playoffs. The expression on his face when he lifted the Cup reflected just how much work he put into his whole career. I will look forward to seeing his jersey in the RBC rafters sometime soon.
Memories
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 17:08 — wxray1His humility.
Remember that game winner with 0:22s left in '06 against Jersey? I remember the Roddy interview, and he explained what was supposed to happen (he wins the faceoff), and what really happened, (he lost the faceoff, but it turned out OK and ended up in a Staal goal).
Or the "aw shucks, that was nothing" goal against Conklin when Brindy was the the right place, right time in the Finals?
Or, recalling his son's quote from the night before: "Dad, you GOTTA win tomorrow." and how it drove him?
Or meeting him at the various Friesen 5k's, and how he was there to support the community.
Just too much. I'm so glad he and the team found this mutual ending. It was time. It is turning out the way it should.
I hope he has more time now to go to those NC State games he always had to miss.

Wed, 06/30/2010 - 15:45 — Canes73Is it too early to start the Rod Brind'Amour for the Hall of Fame campaign?
What a class act
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 15:27 — jrscanesWatching him sign my son's jersey (and posters for him and his friend) and posing for pictures at the kids museum downtown a couple of summers ago and the amount of time he was willing to take making a 7 year old's fantasy come true. Thanks again, Roddy!
#17
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 15:12 — HockeydogWith all due respect to Ronnie Francis, Rod Brind'Amour is the defining Carolina Hurricane. To say the #17 will never grace another Canes sweater is very obvious to say the least. Kids, this man is your role model. Other than his tremendous ability to win face-offs, he really didn't have any weapons like speed, or really great hands. What he had was a great mind for the game, incredible devotion to physical fitness, and amazing intensity on the ice. Many players have done much less in their careers with much more than Brindy.
Now as he enters his next career in the game, he joins a rather elite crew in this organization. Ronnie Francis, Glen Wesley, Tom Barrasso, and introducing Rod Brind'Amour. How many other teams can boast a staff that includes this many Hall of Fame caliber former players? A class group indeed!
Congratulations Mr. Brind'Amour on a stellar career and thank you for all you have done for this franchise. The picture of you hoisting Lord Stanley in Hurricanes red will be forever etched in history.
Captain
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 15:02 — garybdiverIt's funny but I think one of the things I'll remember most was getting a chance to meet Roddy at a STH party one year. He seemed so humble that we, the fans, took the time to stand in line for his autograph. While everyone was in awe, especially the kids to meet him. He just seemed real. He reminded me of James Worthy when he was with the Lakers. Kind of shy and humble.
Brind'amour will always be a hurricane
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 15:00 — trisnSad to see Rod retire, but am relieved that he will stay on with the Hurricanes in some capacity. Thanks for all the wonderful memories as a player, hope you stay in Raleigh forever!
Last one to get hit by puck in RBC center
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 14:51 — hldr1592I was (I think) the last person to get hit by a puck in 2006 playoffs (before the nets), by a Rod Brind'Amour slapshot. Got him to sign the puck the following season, but was too much in awe and did not want to waste his time in telling him the story.
this post will be awkward if
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 13:54 — jgrant641this post will be awkward if Roddy calls a press conference today to announce a new clothing line he is releasing, and will be playing with the team next season.
kidding...
I had a red canes jersey for several years with no name and number on it, and debated for several years who I would put on it. During the cup run I had narrowed it down to Whitney and Stillman, whom I had been following as a fan before they even came to the canes, and Rod Brinda'mour. When I saw Rod lift that cup and stomp his feet I remember thinking, "THAT's who I am getting on my jersey!" side-note: I met my future wife about an hour later... it was a big day!
I did, that summer, and wear that Jersey as my #1 Jersey.
Just like Wesley and Francis, you will be missed, but hopefully you aren't going far.

That's mine too. That goal
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 22:38 — atrioneThat's mine too. That goal got us to game 6 in the series and the endless ovation. Without that goal, there is no trip to the finals in 2002 and no Stanley Cup in 2006.
that's easy
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 13:11 — MrKnockoffSingle handedly winning the Montreal series in 2006 with one goal. Perfect mix of determination and skill, all in one play.
