PLYMOUTH, Mich. -- Canes coach Paul Maurice said today that there would be no lineup changes for Thursday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Injured forwards Sergei Samsonov, Chad LaRose and Erik Cole all practiced today at Compuware Arena, home of the OHL's Plymouth Whalers. But Maurice said all three were "a ways away" physically from rejoining the lineup.
The Whalers team attended the practice and was addressed by Maurice as well as LaRose, who played and starred for the Whalers in the 2001, '02 and '03 seasons.
"It was good. It's nice to be back," LaRose said. "It brings back some memories.
"They have a great organization and it's always great to see the guys coming up."
LaRose scored 61 goals in 67 games in his last season with the Whalers.
"It was a fun year," LaRose said. "We had a bunch of young guys and weren't picked to do much and went all the way to the conference finals and lost in Game 7."
LaRose said he can still remember being where the Whalers' players are now, dreaming the dream and hoping to one day be in the NHL.
"I always dreamed of where I am now," he said. "There will be quite a few of those guys out on the ice with us."

Thu, 01/14/2010 - 00:22 — CanarseNearly all the guys on your list have already been drafted. Only the 17yr olds are available. I was less than impressed with Tyler Hall. He played quite small IMO. He can skate and dangle, but spent plenty of time getting up off the ice. Do the Canes really need another little guy?
How about a D man? Cam Fowler is ranked #3 by ISS and looked good at the World Juniors. He is Tyler Hall's teammate and seemed to have his number when on the ice. The Canes need a real #1 defenseman in the worst way.
