The Canes have recalled forward Jon Matsumoto and defenseman Bryan Rodney from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL). The players are being recalled on an emergency basis and will be available for tonight's game at Ottawa.

Matsumoto, 24, is being recalled to Carolina for the second time this season. The Ottawa, Ont., native scored two goals and averaged 7:44 of ice time in 10 games with Carolina from Nov. 1-24, his first career NHL stint.

Rodney, 26, returns to Carolina for the second time this season, having been reassigned to Charlotte on Dec. 19 following a two-game stint with the Hurricanes.

Defense Call Up

Jamie McBain didn't play after the 15 minute mark of the 3rd period ... Ian White didn't play during the last 3 1/2 minutes.

Rodney

Who is hurt on the defence to have Rodney recalled?

Not sure on the d ,But

Not sure on the D...Unless McBain is getting punished for those 2 dumb penalty's ,But Jokinen being out for ANY time is gonna be hard to replace! BTW Congrat's to Staal on the streak of late 3rd period penalty's AGAIN!

Unreal...

Staal scores two goals and is +1 and you still find a way to denigrate him. Nice.

If only...

the Canes had a couple of more guys on pace to score 40 goals for people to complain about. ;)

Hopefully it's Pitkanen...

He has looked really bad out there lately.  His play on the PP has shown bad passing for a quaterbacking defenseman.  Now, I hope he is not injuried but if he gets rocked in a game, he does tend to sit out the next game.  Let's see how we play without him!

Not punishment

It's got to be an injury for an emergency call-up. You can't use those just because you want to bench someone for poor play. The lineup sheet just shows the two additional players, so there was no clue there who the injured Dman might be. It may well be a game time decision and if the player isn't ready to go, they have Rodney ready to step in.

I know that...I was being

I know that...I was being sarcastic about McBain's brain cramps!
