Goaltender Michael Leighton has been placed on re-entry waivers, the Hurricanes confirmed today.
Leighton was placed on waivers Monday. He cleared waivers, then was assigned Saturday to the Albany River Rats (AHL).
Leighton has a one-way contract that pays him $600,000 this season.

The Best for Leighton
Mon, 12/14/2009 - 08:55 — Caniac5Leighton is a very good goaltender! His status has fallen due to the Cane's not letting him play. He needs time in the net to "find" himself again. His confidence has been shattered by management and this is very unfortunate as he was dedicated to Cane's organization. I know he will pass re-entry waivers with no problem and, for him, I hope they do cut him loose and another team picks him up quickly. He deserves the chance and, since the Cane's didn't see his potential, I hope to see him come back to Raleigh and show them what they missed out on. I am a Caniac Fan and will be till the end but, my loyality is to the players right not. Management needs a shake up!!!
no matter
Sun, 12/13/2009 - 17:31 — esteban1949what happens i hope and pray for the best for Michael & His Family...one heck of a Christmas Present huh ?
Go Canes !!
Must be a taker
Sun, 12/13/2009 - 15:23 — robotron2084I would assume this is a signal that there's a team willing to pick up Leighton at half price. Don't see any other reason to do this unless we've missed an injury to either Ward or Legace. Or... Legace's about to be traded if they can get Leighton to clear.
Next step buy out
Sun, 12/13/2009 - 22:34 — Biff_BeersI think the Canes are cutting Leighton loose, and re-entry waivers are just the next step in that process. If he clears waivers again, the Canes will buy him out. For that reason, I think he will clear waivers. Any team that is interested in him can wait for the Canes to buy him out and then negotiate a better deal with him.
