The Canes will be without forward Jussi Jokinen as they travel to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs on Thursday.
Jokinen suffered a lower-body injury in the first period of the Canes' 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday and will miss a week or two.
The Canes have recalled Zach Boychuk from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL). Boychuk has four goals and three assists in 18 games with the Canes this season.
Jokinen had six goals and six assists in the nine games before the All-Star break.
In an interview Monday, Jokinen said the Canes could reach the playoffs this season "if we stay healthy." Realizing what he had said, Jokinen smiled and quickly rapped his knuckles against the wooden base of his locker stall.
Sure enough, in the next game, Jokinen was injured.
