Harrison shipped to Albany

Bookmark and Share

Defenseman Jay Harrison, whom the Carolina Hurricanes picked up in free agency in July, has been reassigned to the Albany River Rats, the team’s AHL affiliate.

Harrison, 27, had scored a goal and two assists in 10 games this season with 27 penalty minutes and was -4 while averaging 12:05 of ice time per game. Harrison had been placed on waivers Monday.

Harrison, at 6-foot, 4-inches and 211 pounds, was brought in to add depth to the Hurricanes defense, which general manager Jim Rutherford hoped to bolster with size.

But on the heels of the Canes’ 2-8-3 start, Rutherford told The N&O Monday that he took responsibility for the slow start.

“I thought adding some players would make the team better, but it hasn’t,” he said. “Maybe we have too many veterans.”

Rutherford said changes were on the way, that he’ll be looking to make trades early this year, and that some of the younger players may be called up from Albany.

Rumors ??

Now i persoanlly have NOT seen or read any rumors of any kind concering trying to get Ollie Jokinen here to the Hurricanes.as the only sites i do read from are this one ( the N&O),THN and once in a blue moon a small site called the Hockey Arena...as i am rally too bust to go nosing around say at NHL.com. I personally would have like the Canes to have picked Him up before Calgary got him.As for the kind of player he is and the stats he has, verses (sorry didn't mean to cuss like that) what the Canes has on hand & future "considerations", I just don't see him or a player like him coming to the Canes this season. But as we all know, JR has pulled a few "rabbits" out of the hat before, so all any of us can do is sit back & wait. Now has anybody got a good hot rumor for tonights game???

Go Canes !!

And my final thoughts of

The " Rumor thingy"!!! I have to admit that i had a very very wicked thought of what the Canes could, would or might have IF...and again I say IF you had Ollie,Jussie & Tuomo all on the same line...would that be the Cane's version of the " Hanson Brothers" ?? see i warned you it was a very wicked thought !!!

Go Canes !!

Another Thought Then...

OK, let's then let's think wishfully if not practically.

We all realize that Mr. Rutherford likes to "run lean" so the likelihood of him coming up with another $2M (beyond Whitney's salary) for Ollie Jokinen is not realistric....unless....by some minor miracle we find someone to take Aaron Ward and his $2.5 M salary off our hands. Then we could bring up Jamie McBain from Albany whom I suspect would do  better than Ward.

It'll be interesting to see who we do bring in from Albany. But until a solution is found, go team...we are hoping for great things from you.

Rumors can Become Facts

My end of the street is hearing a fairly interesting rumor about who(m) will be dealt. I know, I know..... but one can carry unconfirmed tales only so far, even though communication science teaches that 85 per cent of what we hear via the grape vine becomes fact. So I won't potentially "poison the well" by going further with this, but if this one happens ( we should know soon) it could prove quite positive. I probably shouldn't even post this, but good old Esteban probably needs some fodder to get his inquisitive nature into high gear this morning, so here it is my good man. Lets see what, if anything, he can deduce from this tidbit! ( Doesn't he ever get tired of being right? I really didn't say much did, I, but my wife makes that claim of me with all of my philosophical meanderings. I'll 'fess up' later, (after the fact) right or wrong.

Ollie Jokinen

Ollie Jokinen would be exactly the skill set needed for the Hurricanes.  It would speak volumes about the commitment of the Hurricanes' ownership if they were to take on Ollie Jokinen's salary.  Ollie Jokinen scored almost at will against the Hurricanes in the past.  If not Ollie Jokinen, somebody with that scoring ability, size, and speed, please.  I admire Ray Whitney and appreciate all that he has done for the organization.  I would be terribly sad to lose him from the team; but as much as I admire him and appreciate his efforts,  I would trade him for Ollie Jokinen in a nanosecond.

Should I be worried?

Is PK planning to move the team to Finland?

ha ha ha

Exactly what I was thinking when seeing this rumor!

:-)

Agree 100%. But Olli Jokinen

Agree 100%. But Olli Jokinen makes $2 million a season more than Whitney does. That $2 million will have to come from somewhere. Also, note that Jokinen is also a UFA next summer.

Ollie Jokinen and Salary

I'd take Ollie Jokinen for the remainder of the year even if for some reason the Hurricanes could not re-sign him.  I am convinced that having a player like Ollie Jokinen even for a partial season would conclusively demonstrate how much better team is with a large, physical, and fast power forward who thrives on the inside game.  Once the Hurricanes experience what that niche player can accomplish,  they won't do without it again.  It's one of the very final pieces to the Hurricanes' short-term and long-term success.  The remaining pieces are already on the team or at Albany (with Paradis and Kennedy still waiting in the wings to be brought up next year and with Dalpe at Ohio State).

Rumors about trading away

Rumors about trading away Cole came true.

SKY

Just say it. It is a rumor. I'll take it with a grain of salt. Eklund already said Whitney to Calgary, and we all know how reliable he is....NOT!

I would trade Whitney, and any other UFA that I could get picks / prospects back for. Then I would bring up some of the rats to see what they can do at the NHL level.

So, Sky either spill the beans, or get off the pot. We won't hold you to it if it the trade doesn't happen. :)

OK

Roche...Since you force the issue...you are on track somewhat. How about Whitney for Ollie Jokinen. And as you said, you can take this "cum grano salis."

BUT the source you site is the second source I've heard this RUMOR from. I do agree about letting go a UFO approaching age 38, but I would hate to lose that guy.

The beans, for what they are worth, are hereby on the floor!!!

Whitney

I like the guy as a player both on & off the ice. The only reason I would trade him is because he is a UFA at the end of the season, and because of his age any contract he would sign would be on the books for the entire length of the contract.(See Brind'amour)

I don't see this happening straight up. Olli make 5.5M, and Whitney makes 3.5M. No way we add to the payroll with this team. We would need to throw in someone making atleast 2M, and they would need to throw in a pick or prospect.

Roche

maurice needs to join

maurice needs to join harrison in albany!

ctill

all we can do is hope and " cross" our fingers and toes huh ? i was surpised to see this, but i knew from "experience...something was going to happen and i wasn't aware that Harrison was even put on waivers...Persoanlly, i had hoped he'd stay out of the box more so he could have had more ice time, and possibly contributed more. enjoy the evening..

Go Canes !!

Will the next D callup from

Will the next D callup from Albany be Rodney, McBain, or Bellemore? Carson is recovering from a broken wrist, and Borer is out long-term. Bellemore has the best plus/minus so far in Albany. He's a stay-at-home D who is larger than Rodney or McBain.

The plan seems to be:  Keep

The plan seems to be:  Keep Sutter up...  possibly find a way to get Yelle off the team and call up another forward (or trade for one) and to use Conboy as the 7th defensive player (he has a one way contract).
