Gleason to miss Stars game

Bookmark and Share

Canes defenseman Tim Gleason will be held out of tonight's Dallas Stars game as a precaution, coach Paul Maurice said after the morning skate.

Gleason took a puck in the face Friday against the Washington Capitals and needed 30 stitches to close the wound. He returned to the Caps game and had 19:26 in ice time Saturday night in Ottawa.

But Gleason has not felt well since the two games, Maurice said, and missed practices Monday and Tuesday. Maurice said trainer Pete Friesen said Gleason could play Friday against the Florida Panthers.

"Sometimes these things take a couple of days before they manifest out," Maurice said.

While Gleason played in the two games, he has experienced concussion-type symptoms.

"You don't know," Maurice said. "Sometimes you feel lousy right after. But he came back and played pretty darn well and played pretty good the next night.

"Then (Sunday) he had the day off and you start to have some symptoms you don't like. But I've seen other guys get knocked absolutely unconscious and two days later there's no symptoms. These things are tough to predict."

Maurice said Gleason would have to go through a "set of tests" before being allowed to play.

With Gleason and Niclas Wallin out, the Canes will have Jay Harrison, Brett Carson and Bryan Rodney in the lineup for the Stars -- three callups from Albany (AHL).

"And everybody in the lineup has some (NHL) experience," Maurice said.  "It's not like we're pulling guys up for their first game.

"We expect a good game out of our defense. We don't cut them a lot of room because they were in the American League at some point this season."

Carson has averaged 20:11 in ice time in his four games since being called up from the River Rats. Harrison played more than 21 minutes in each of the last two games.

Dedicated Players

Anyway, T.Gleason’s goal was awesome. And he should forevermore be called Timmo Gleasonen. A worthy honor for his performance.
I’m not sure this earns him the “C” though. What he did is just another example why Hockey Players are the most dedicated team athletes. We could all list almost insane acts of individual dedication. K.Adams playing with a broken arm. D.Markov losing a handful of teeth and missing about 10 minutes, etc etc.
BTW, will it be pronounced ‘Tim-o’ or ‘Teemo’ ?

And i also add my

25 cents in as well...aas i do hope that Tim does heal and is ready to return this week end. But I would err on the side of safety...heal up sir !!!

The Canes are Good,My Grandkids are Better, and Life is Great !!
Go Canes !!

Tim's improvement

Tim's improvement in his overall game is quite noticeable. Jim has long maintained that he doesn't think that a defenseman really starts maturing until they are 25-26. There are some exceptions, but if you really look at the overall picture Jim is correct. With Tim being 26 and Joni 25, they could be the cornerstone pairing for this franchise for many years to come. I'm sure there will be some phone calls made (if they haven't occurred already) inquiring about Tim. Let's see if the franchise tries to lock him up for at least another 5 years after his current deal runs out.

True professional...

Hope Tim is feeling better soon and back on the ice. He is amazing and such a pro; all the best! Let's Go Canes!!

Not only did Gleason show

Not only did Gleason show great character, as the season has gone on he has reduced the number of emotional penalties that he takes. This is a really good sign for the Canes in future years.

Mr Gleason

My hat is off to you ,I have never seen that much character from anyone, talk about playing thru the pain.....I wish we had several more just like him...hope to see him playing again very soon
