FSN South to televise 65 games

Bookmark and Share

The Hurricanes' television package this season on FSN South will include 65 games, including 35 of the team's 41 road games, it was announced today.

The coverage will kick off Oct. 10 as the Canes host the Florida Panthers in the regular-season opener at the RBC Center. The next night, Carolina will be in Tampa for its first road game, followed by an Oct. 13 game at home against the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.

The Canes have a six-game road trip after the Detroit game and five will be televised by FSN South, including the Oct. 23 matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the 2008 Eastern Conference champions.

One highlighted game will be "Glen Wesley Night" — the Feb. 17 matchup against the Boston Bruins at the RBC Center. The former Carolina defenseman will have his uniform — No. 2 — formally retired.

In was announced in January that FSN South and the team had agreed to a multi-year agreement that made FSN South the exclusive local rightsholder for Hurricanes games. FSN South will telecast a minimum of 65 regular-season games each year.

FSN South will televise 12 of the last 13 regular-season games.

What I would like to know

What I would like to know when I purchase NHL center ice again is why TWC doesn't show feeds broadcast in HD on an HD channel?

Bandwidth

For the same reason they don't carry 75-100 HD channels like satelite does -- bandwidth.

Unfortunately I am one who is stuck with TWC due to trees blocking line of sight to 3 of the 5 satellites required to get a full package on satellite TV.  So we wait and hope that TWC can develop enough bandwidth.

No HD :(

From the official presser, none of the games were denoted as being broadcast in HD (home OR away) other than the VS. game.

TV Schedule

Well now...at least FSN will give us here in the triad ( via twc) some choices...sigh...but at what cost ? persoanlly if i had my choice between the Canes & the Bobcats...give me the Canes !!!!!!!!!!! besides...and not putting the Bobcats down mind you...but I'd rather watch Soccor from Mexico on Univision again from TWC ...but what do i know...I can't speak spanish very well...sigh...Go Canes !!

Hmm

I thought I read that SportsSouth will take the Bobcats when the Hurricanes are playing on FSN South since Charlotte gets SportsSouth and Raleigh does not.

And how many of those games are going to be HD? FSN announced earlier this year that by/starting (not sure which..) Q1 2009 all FSN live broadcasts would be in HD.

we need to start pushing for

we need to start pushing for FSN HD to be included on TWC in Raleigh and throughout the area..

Canes in HD

Thanks for asking the question. The main reason for me getting a HD TV this summer was to watch the Canes.

SDV

Now that it looks like they are starting to get SDV in place, this  should be happening since they'll have more room for it. FSN HD, ESPNU HD, and ESPNEWS HD please.

They've been somewhat good at putting the games on Mojo HD but sometimes they'll forget to switch the feeds so you have to flip back and forth during the games until it comes on.. there's no need for that.

HD

Every game should be broadcast in HD. IMO, hockey looks the best out of any sport on TV when shown in HD. With the SDV, I really hope we get more than 10 HD broadcasts this year. Last year was pathetic.

Several years ago, didn't channel 250 (Fox 50) in the RDU area carry local HD games not through FSN? I seem to remember much more HD coverage back then. It's almost like they've taken a step backwards with their HD coverage.

Now if we can just figure

Now if we can just figure how to get the other 16 games.. (Versus has 1)..

Any word on how FSN South will handle any overlaps with the Bobcats? (If any...)

reference the Capitals' broadcasts

The Washington Capitals have all of their games on TV, all in HD.

It's almost uncanny how BAD the games look on an HDtv while watching on a non-HD channel.
