Time to put an end to the Patrick-Eaves-could-return speculation. The forward, traded by the Canes last month in the deal that brought Aaron Ward back to Carolina, has been signed by the Detroit Red Wings.
Eaves signed a one-year contract Tuesday with the Wings, TSN is reporting.
Eaves was traded to the Boston Bruins in the July 24 deal for Ward and was then placed on waivers by the Bruins.

Good situation
Wed, 08/05/2009 - 13:01 — Hockeydogfor Eaves. No pressure to score and surrounded by top quality players. Not sure how their roster is looking so I can't say if he will be an every day starter or a healthy extra. The Wings are always so deep with players.
I'll never understand waivers
Wed, 08/05/2009 - 12:20 — Biff_BeersI thought Detroit had to honor Eaves' current contract ($1.4M this year, $1.7M next) when they picked him up off of waivers. How did they managed to sign him for one year at $500K?
Waivers
Wed, 08/05/2009 - 13:02 — rocheccwEaves was placed on waivers by the Bruins. If a team had pick up Eaves during the 24hours he was on waivers then that team would have been on the hook for his 3.1M two years contract.
No team picked him up so the Bruins bought him out of that contract. Eaves is under 26 years old so his buyout is 1/3 the remaining money over double the years remaining. 3.1M X 33% = 1.02M / 4 = 255K. So Boston is paying Eaves 255K per year for the next 4 years to get out of his contract.
This also made Eaves a UFA. So he signed a 500K deal with Detroit.
So he will make 755K next year total.
Glad to see Eaves land on
Wed, 08/05/2009 - 09:50 — caneshockeyfanGlad to see Eaves land on his feet with a good club. Best of luck to him. For the Red Wings, this is almost a no-brainer. A young guy with potential, 1-year deal at a bargain basement price.
Eaves -- Best of Luck
Wed, 08/05/2009 - 07:39 — abramsdougI think all Hurricanes fans wish the best of luck to Eaves. He has enormous potential and should fit in well with the Red Wings. On the other hand, given the talent available to the Hurricanes on the team and in their system, Eaves was not a great fit here. For players such as Eaves sometimes it takes the right team at the right time for them to succeed. Best of luck.
I'd have
Tue, 08/04/2009 - 22:24 — esteban1949A good laugh IF Eaves had a great season there...But and NOT being a butt head or anything...but if Patrick does have a great 09/10 season...does that mean he wasn't exactly happy here for some reason ? But I do wish him a safe & good season...
Go Canes !!
If Eaves somehow plays at
Tue, 08/04/2009 - 21:26 — ctillIf Eaves somehow plays at his potential, at least we won't face him often. I like it when ex-Canes play in the Western Conference.
