The Canes have agreed to new, two-way contracts with restricted free agent forwards Patrick Dwyer and Michael Ryan.

“Patrick and Michael add important depth to our organization at the forward positions,” general manager Jim Rutherford said in announcing the signings. “Both players had productive seasons last year and are capable of contributing at the NHL level.”

Dwyer, 25, made his NHL debut last year and played in 13 games for the Canes during three recalls from Albany of the American Hockey League (AHL). He scored his first NHL goal at Philadelphia on Nov. 28, and appeared in two Stanley Cup playoff games, recording one assist.

Ryan, 29, played in 18 games for the Canes, recording two assists while averaging 8:12 of ice time.

Let see what mike Ryan's got

Ryan's got all the tools just needs some more ice time and the vote of confidence that comes with it.Canes were wise to sign both Ryan & Dwyer its short money, I think Ryan could prove to be a steal if he's giving a chance to play with guys that shoot. If they put him on the 3rd line(and give him a real chance ) I say he gets 16g&50a easy.

Ryan

I really liked the way Ryan was playing right up until the Jokinen trade. He was going to the net and set up a few plays where he didn't show up on the scoresheet.

I would have liked to see him get some of the playing time that went to Dwyer later in the season.

great news

as both of them with some extra ice time could and would come into their own...and i bet the Rats bench is happy too !!
