Dumoulin, Dalpe to attend camp

Bookmark and Share

The Hurricanes' draftees, with the exception of Swedish forward Mattias Lindstrom, will attend the team's prospects camp next month in Raleigh, general manager Jim Rutherford said today.

Defenseman Brian Dumoulin, the Canes' second-round selection Saturday in the NHL Entry Draft, is headed to Boston College for his freshman year on a hockey scholarship and must pay his own expenses to the camp.

Forward Zac Dalpe, the Canes' second-round pick last year, is a rising sophomore at Ohio State but also will attend, Rutherford said.

Rutherford said the team's two draftees from Finland, defensemen Rasmus Rissanen and Tommi Kivisto, had said they would be at the camp.

Others on the list, Rutherford said, include goaltender Mike Murphy, winger Chris Terry, winger Matthew Pistilli and forwards Kai Kantola and Mike McKenzie.

The camp is scheduled July 15-18.

Nope. In fact this was from

Nope. In fact this was from a recent Luke Decock article:

"And then there are the roster fillers, the peasantry -- junior and college players without contracts hoping to earn an invitation to training camp. LaRose had been one of those twice for the Detroit Red Wings before the Hurricanes signed him."

Basically, this is the route undrafted players go down.

Thanks

Good to know. I hope it works out for him. Maybe he will atleast get a shot in the ECHL with the Everblades once he is done with BG.

It's called a free agent

It's called a free agent tryout and it's done all the time.

Free Agent Tryouts

I understand free agent tryouts, but I thought the player had to be done with juniors, or college. I thought Kai had one more year left at BG.

RecZone

It will most likely be at the Rec Zone & open to the public to watch.

How?

How can Kai get an invite to camp when he is not a draft pick, or a signed rookie FA?
