How quick was Carolina's 4-3 dramatic finish over the New Jersey Devils?

So fast that ESPN.com didn't have a chance to take down its "Devils Oust Canes" (bottom left hand corner) before putting up its story on the Canes' win.

You can tell the people on Sportscenter don't watch the Hurricanes. Barry Melrose got a few players wrong. Did you know Cullen scored our first goal thanks to a great drop pass from "Two-a-mo" Ruutu? And that it was Seidenberg who passed the puck to Pitkanen for the GTG?

The boys in Bristol will never get over losing the Whale.

Hartford did nothing to support their team, because they didn't think they had to. Instead of dealing with it and moving on, ESPN *still* holds a grudge, trying to push the NHL out of the nation's sports conscience.

And they treat NC State horribly as well, trying as hard as they can to pretend there is only two universities in the area. Now that New York has no teams left, expect Stanley Cup coverage to become even more marginalized, if that's possible. Too bad the "southleast" has the most representation in the east semis.

But we'll keep watching here and hope for the best.

I'm still pinching myself. Did it really happen??!!!!

I watched the game on cable's Center Ice package. Unfortunately, it was NOT Tripp and John. It was the Devil's feed. Senile homer Doc Emery called Eric Staal "Jared." Before the 4 on 4 penalty in the 3rd, he said they hadn't played any 4 on 4 "so far." (I gues so, if you don't count the 2 OT games!).

Go Canes.

You refer to Doc (his name is Emrick...not Emery as you so mislabeled him)  as a "senile homer." Doc is perhaps the most erudite man calling any sport on TV today. He earned an undergraduate  degree in speech, a master's degree in radio/television and has a Ph. D in communications and a trained voice..

Surely you graduated from medcal  school or perhaps have a degree in physiology  which qualifies you to diagnose senility in someone you have probably never met . Maybe that gives those who read your rant credentials to assume your level of education and mental acuity. Hum!

You chide Doc for calling Stall by his brother's name yet you don't pay Doc the courtesy of spelling his name correctly. Also sir, there is a second s in the word that you spelled "gues." 

Finally,  referring to a broadcast with the word "stunk" doesn't bespeak the high rent district now, does it? 

You might want to consider apologizing to Doc, I mean Dr. Emrick.

 I'll take your word that Doc Emrick has a "trained voice," a PhD, and is eudite and I will  ignore your otherwise ad hominem attack.  My point stands; he's a homer and calling Eric Staal "Jared" is a careless mistake for a professional hockey broadcaster.

PS For a "trained voice," it sure is nasal.

PPS It's "Staal," not "Stall," Mr. Speling Eckspert.

 

 

Versus' top announcer

Emrick? Hmmm...his name calls to mind fabulous broadcaster gems like:  "Both teams skate to their respective benches to be replaced by different guys" or "there are 2 3/4 minutes remaining in the 3rd period."  There is too much idle chit-chat during the game on Versus and NBC (which is even worse with "Edso" references, Pierre screaming from between the benches, and all of the infantile giggling).  I'd take Ray Ferraro and his lisp any day on the "national" broadcasts.  And, I'll take John & Tripp, where available, over HD, Versus, NBC, TSN, etc.

I appreciate your defense of the Devils' announcer, up until the point where you call out the other poster for misspelling "guess." It's called a typo man, welcome to the Internet, get used to it. (Especially since it was followed by a word starting with "s" which makes it a very easy typo to make)

It also looks bad when you're trying to belittle someone else for misspelling things (meanwhile sounding high-and-mighty yourself, sir) and then do it yourself (Stall).

Please, by all means, defend this guy you apparently have great admiration for. But leave the grammar Nazi attidude at the door!

 Two thing we did learn from the two posts:

l. Doc Emrick is apparently senile and

2. I'm apparently a Nazi.

Thanks for the "education" about what a typo is. Gue(s) my "senile Nazi" mind never learned that during my 40 years as a sports editor.

I also had to watch the Devils Comcast feed and cringe each time I have to. Doc Emrick is not so bad but his partner in crime Chico (Homer) Resch is much worse. Last time he got Tuomo Ruutu's name wrong and got Eaves mixed up with Samsonov. You would have thought they could figure out people's names by now.
