Defenseman Derek Joslin has been recalled from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) to join the Hurricanes, the team announced this morning.
Joslin, 24, had three assists in four games during his AHL conditioning stint with the Checkers. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman from Richmond Hill, Ont., has played in 14 of Carolina’s 44 games this season. In those previous games, Joslin registered one goal and earned one assist (2 points) while averaging 15:55 of ice time per game.
Joslin is in his fifth full professional season and has scored three goals and earned 11 assists in 84 career NHL games with San Jose and Carolina. He was drafted by the Sharks in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and was acquired by Carolina via a trade in February 2011.
