Cullen to miss Florida game

Bookmark and Share

The Canes will be without center Matt Cullen when they play the Florida Panthers on Monday in Sunrise, Fla.

Canes coach Paul Maurice said today that Cullen, who suffered a lower-body injury Saturday against the Washington Capitals, would be held out of the Panthers game.

"He played through the injury last night but was not feeling great after the game," Maurice said. "Our thinking is that if we keep him out Monday he'll feel better Wednesday."

The Canes play the Ottawa Senators Wednesday at the RBC Center.

Maurice said either Rod Brind'Amour or Jussi Jokinen would move into Cullen's spot on the line with Chad LaRose and Ray Whitney.

"That's the question," Maurice said. "We'll probably use them both during the game, move them around. Rod and (Sergei) Samsonov have been putting pucks in the net, too."

Cullen had two goals and an assist Friday against the New York Islanders and has 30 points in the last 30 games.

The Canes have

done well in picking up Jokinen & getting Cole back...it seems that they were the couple of somethings the Canes seemed to have lacked if one wanted to look at it from that standpoint...plus you add the injuries the Canes had earlier in the season...and if the Canes do make it to the playoffs, and at least get past the first round, that should be a confirmation of sorts to how smart JR can be as a GM...as compared with my efforts at trying to manage the Canes that is...hmmm one thought though...if and say the Canes could have gotten Jokinen & Cole sooner would Mo have been brought back ?

Gee more second guessing huh ? But I am just a fan...what would i know ? Go Canes !!!

Lucidity - You're Getting There :)

Hey Esteban

No offense intended ... and I think you're a good sport about it ... that may be the most lucid post you've ever made  <grin>.

Are you running for MVP or something??

VS. exclusive

I stand corrected.....rumor out of Florida paper is that the NHL has over ruled the contract and the canes game will be on the Center Ice Package.

To clarify this for everyone.......VS. has the exclusive rights to monday night games. The only game that will be televised on TV (reg cable or Center ICE) will be the game on Versus.

 it's like monday

 it's like monday nightfootball

then the league should NEVER have more than one or two games then

especially this late in the season with games and playoff implications

stupid stupid stupid (<= me yelling, but not at you )

go canes

Center Ice

Can anyone explain why with Center Ice we rarely if ever get the Canes games in HD? I'm on DirecTV if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

TV & Lines

while I am NOT a total tightwad, but here TWC has a "special" for NHL package...75.00 now grant you that in and of it's self would be ok...considering the cost of travel, tickets & etc...but i just can't see spending the funds...I can get along just fine litening to Chuck K via the internet (radio)...and i like the looks of the "euro" line make up...give it a few shifts and see it will work out...

Go Canes !!

lines

Whitney Staal Cole
Ruutu Jokinen Samsonov
Larose Brindy Eaves
Bayda Ryan Conboy

I know you don't want to break up chemistry, but all of these lines played well together in the past. I think you would loose too much with whitney Jokinen and Larose. I think the Euro line would be exciting to watch.

Just one mans opinion

The game ...

... IS on TV. jejohn8 is right. However, it won't be broadcast by Fox Sports Net. It will ONLY be on Center Ice, and it will be the in-arena (i.e. Jumbotron) feed with the Panthers' radio announcers simulcast. I guess it's better than nothing, but you can't convince me they couldn't get Fox Sports Net and Denis Potvin ready to go. It's not like this game snuck up on anyone.

tv

I don't think game is being carried by anyone. Florida or fox sports carolinas.

chucky K on Monday

the game will be on center ice with fla radio announcers-

i will watch with the mute on and chucky K on the radio

this will be good!

Go Canes!

BTW, next year all caniacs really should buy center ice. its a good deal.
its only 150.00 for the season- thats equal to 2 tickets( lower level) and a beer tab at one game!

Center Ice

JeJohn

I have to disagree with you on the value of Center Ice ... *if* one
buys it to be able to follow their team anywhere everywhere all the
time.

The game tomorrow night is at least the 4th of 5th Canes' away game
not televised by ANYONE, apparently.   Seems to me that the entire
point (well, the entire point of me buying it anyway) was to ensure I
could watch MY team regardless of what network genius'es were doing.
Between Versus, even with their exclusivity; FSNwhatever; NBC; The
Hockey Channel; and the GREEN DOLLARS I PAID FOR Center Ice ... I
should be able to watch 81 regular season games and every playoff game
I want for ANY of the teams ... Canes' included.

It was wasted money.

I wouldn't give them a red cent next season.

  i guess i'm just a fan

i guess i'm just a fan of hockey in general and a big fan of my hometown team in particular

really this package pays for itself now that i can see how other teams are playing for the coveted 8 playoff spots.

just last night i was bouncing between the fla/ columbus game buffalo/rangers game and watching our boys play last night. this happened numerous times this year

earlier this year it was fun to watch carolina play montreal with french announcers.

that game was not on FScarolinas... a couple were not in fact.

Center Ice / Monday Night

As of 3/16 (subject to change, of course) the game will NOT be broadcast on Center Ice

http://www.indemand.com/sports/nhl/nhl_schedule.pdf

On the other hand, if ANY local TV station has an ounce of sense and an urge to sell a load of advertising (reminder to local TV stations:  You make $$ by selling advertising) they'd get 3 guys w/ handhelds on the road *NOW* w/ a small van.

Monday telecast

Unless you know something I don't, the game will NOT be televised at all on Monday.  I e-mailed Chip to see if someone would possibly decide to televise it (because of the playoff implications), and he said the networks are using the "it's too late to decide to broadcast it" excuse.  I think it's rediculous that such an important game has no TV from either team's broadcast.  What a shame that is for us and for the NHL!

Total lack of flexibility

Unbelievable that the NHL (yes, the league ... not any one particular broadcaster, Versus, FSC, NBC, whoever) with their NHL.COM doesn't go pull 3 cameras out of storage from somewhere south of West Palm Beach, get 'em to the Sunrise Center, and put this game on the air.

Bettman ... are you listening?  Are you *REALLY* this clueless and inflexible?

Lines

We could move Jussi up to center the second line, Eaves to the third and either Kaberle moving in as a seventh defensemen or Ryan or Bayda to the fourth line.

I would prefer to see Bayda back in the lineup. He has done nothin but work hard all season.

Joki's been a great pick up

I'm liking this guy more and more. Quiet, but solid play. Nice pass to Brindy last nite!

Center for the Second Line

I agree with movin Jokinen to the second line and Eaves to the third line. Jokinen is an extremely intelligent player with great vision of the ice and superb hands. He would fit well on the second line. Samsonov and Brind'Amour have been working well together in terms of making tight passes. Eaves on the third line is logical. It may also be a reasonable choice to try Michael Ryan on the third line. For the Florida game, they could consider giving more nearly equal time to the revised second and third line. Eaves has enormous potential and has shown flashes of brilliance. It would be wonderful if he could rise to the occasion.

Lines

I say move Jokinen up to the second line and Eaves onto the third line.
