Conditioning camp starts Wednesday

Bookmark and Share

Don't forget: The on-ice portion of this week's prospect conditioning camp starts at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the RecZone.

They'll be out there Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well. That group includes Brandon Sutter, Jamie McBain, Zach Boychuk and seven others who will get a crash course in Canes trainer Pete Friesen's lofty fitness expectations.

Michael Leighton is also a possibility to participate, harkening back to a different goalie at a different prospect conditioning camp. In August 2001, after taking a year off of hockey, a 36-year-old Tom Barrasso celebrated his return to the NHL by outrunning a bunch of kids almost 20 years his junior on the track at Cardinal Gibbons.

Our Rookies

My fellow Caniacs, I wish I could join you at the Rec Zone to watch the future Hurricanes in action but unfortunately I'm stuck in HOT Fla. Lets have a good showing and give the guys a "warm" NC welcome.
As for Chad L., I betcha his contract will be settled once JR makes the trade to dump a D-man or another player. That will free up enough $$$ to sign him. If they don't JR better find another energy guy to replace him. Just heard today that the Lightning signed the "Reckinball". We have to keep pace within our division....Lets Go Canes!!!

info?

any more info on larose?

why isnt the team jumping on signing him.

wasnt he one of the hardest working on the team?

i mean he learned from brindamour for gods sake.

 also

any info on tanabe's buyout?

thanks

Answer

To answer your first question,
Because money doesn't grow on trees.  Does LaRose have heart?  of course!  Does heart=$?  unfortunately not.
I am sure JR would sign LaRose for $5 if he had the unlimited budget and unlimited money to do so, but he is a 4th liner.  Very few 4th liners make over $900, and that is the high end.  I am guessing since LaRose saw some more ice time on the top lines he expects to play 3rd line and wants 3rd line money.  the sad fact for him is that he is 4th line and with this team he will only see upward moves in times of injuries.
having said that, i hope we resign him and i hope he gets a just amount, I have no doubt that JR is offering him $800k to a 1way deal.  That is very fair.  Especially since we are already about $2-3 mill over our teams budget.
As for Tanabe, JR said Tanabe will not be back next year.  Despite NHLPA challenges, even if they win, I would Imagine Tanabe would then go straight to waivers and either be picked up or sent down for the season... that is if he even bothers to show up for any hearing the NHLPA/NHL may hold to resolve this dispute.

Larose

LaRose has gone to arbitration.  No decision has been made.  He is asking for more than he is likely worth on the 4th line. Sometimes the hardest workers aren't the best players.  No doubt LaRose and Cole are fan favorites - but after missing the playoffs for two straight years, I'm more concerned about what's on the front of the jersey than what's on the back.  As far as Tanabe - that could take awhile.

LaRose

My guess would be that we won't hear anything on LaRose until the arbitration deadline draws close in a couple of weeks.  I'm sure the two sides will continue negotiating up until the last minute.  That's how these things usually play out.

But as I said, I'm just guessing, just like everyone else.

wrong

Uh, yeah.  I missed on this one.

Happy to have LaRose back in the fold.
