Conboy placed on waivers

Bookmark and Share

The Hurricanes have placed forward Tim Conboy on waivers.

Conboy has played in 10 games, averaging  4:14 of ice time, with no goals and no assists.

Placing Conboy on waivers allows the Canes to call up a player this weekend, if need be, general manager Jim Rutherford said.

Canes coach Paul Maurice said today he is not sure about the availability of forwards Scott Walker and Stephane Yelle for Friday's game against the New York Islanders. Both were injured Wednesday in the 5-2 loss to the LA Kings.

"Both guys are possible but they have to do some improvement in healing," he said. "we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see."

Ray Whitney missed practice today but is expected to play, Maurice said. The same for defenseman Tim Gleason.

Defenseman Joni Pitkanen, who missed the Kings game with a cold, returned to practice today at the RecZone.

For those of you...

who feel that the team should bench Rod, who is going to play in his place right now? This team is depleted at the center position and you think he should be benched?! It is painful watching his play of late. The one thing that was a lock even when he was playing poorly was his ability to win face offs and that has been woeful this year (as well as the rest of the team). We are losing way too many draws, especially in our own end and that was never more evident that the game wednesday when the Kings scored their first goal. I do agree that bringing Aaron back has been a mistake so far and that keeping Seidenberg would have been a better option but the asking price was rumored to be too much. At the end of this season, there will be a lot of players whose contracts will expire. Wallin, Ward, Corvo, Whitney, Walker. With that money, maybe they'll look to pick up Seidenberg and who knows who will be available in the market. That will also allow some of the youth to be possibly playing here next season. Boychuk, Bowman, maybe Carson who knows.

a few days of rest

I agree that it is hard to take Brind'Amour out of the line up while Staal is out (and now maybe Yelle, too). Brind'Amour looked good at the beginning of the season just like he looked pretty good last season when he got some time off after JJ joined the team. His repaired knee must get very sore without a chance to rest periodically. I hope that the team can work in some rest for Brind'Amour when Staal is back, or maybe it would be worthwhile to move JJ back to center for a few games.

Brindy needed

with Yelle and Walker  now out in addition to Staal. The team only has Cullen, Sutter, Jokinen, and Brind'Amour to play the center position. Ruutu could be used, but that would be more of an emergency assignment.  That being said Brindy's play should only warrant a 4th line center spot and no PP time. The team can't bench him with all the injuries but they don't need to play him prime minutes either at this point.

Waiver Wire

When does Conboy clear ? And seeing today is Friday the 13th, i wonder just how " lucky" the Islanders feel ?

Go Canes !!

recognized and appreciated

"I'd like to see Tim go somewhere his passion is recognized and appreciated."

And that place is the Albany River Rats. Oh well. Beyond being a capable depth player and good character guy, Tim's value to the big team largely evaporated when we realized the league was actually going to enforce the instigator rule this season. Why JR signed him to a one-way contract is a question I'd love to know the answer to. It is probably for the same reason that Wade Brookbank and Michael Leighton got one-way deals last season. Maybe it was a way of improving morale in Albany - if you play well in Albany you get rewarded - that kind of thing.

Do You Believe It?

Does anyone really believe that Tim Conboy is the problem? Placing him on waivers is absurd. He was never given a real chance....very limited ice time.  Every time he took the ice he gave maximum effort, much moreso than many others. He skates hard, is passionate, takes up for his teammates, and is a two-way player.I've always considered Mr. Rutherford a good manager, but the Conboy move is disturbing.

Personally I'd like to see Tim go somewhere his passion is recognized and appreciated. We seem to reward the lack of passion on the ice of late. Yelle for Bada...old legs for new...a good example.

We've now put 2 players on waivers, Yelle and Conboy, pulled Leighton out of the back-up spot and made him a back-up to a back-up...how many facial slaps will management inflict on its players!

Simple questions do not always have simple answers but recent decisions are quite predictable and tonight we're likely to see the same old tired bunch of  nonperforming players.

Oh well, we can regard them as "Our Knights in Lackluster Armor."

Good luck team. I'm as disappointed as you are, but I'm beginning to wonder if our problem, is in the front office and not necssarily on the ice...it was the front office that made deals that brought us these players who seem comfortable in the cellar.

Go team.....Hopefully!

Agree with Skyliner

Tim Conboy is the least of their problems.  He plays with heart and grit every time he steps on the ice, which is more than I can say for most of the team.  I'm guessing this was just a formality in case they need to send him down to Albany to bring up a Rat.  They still may keep him up here with the big boys, which is what I hope happens.

One Way Contract

Tim Conboy has a one-way contract. He'll either be picked up by another team or we'll have to keep him...no back door to Albany for this Tim.

But now the other Tim, the one you like, I'd like to see him go---anywhere. But  you and I are making progress, at least we are in agreement on one of the Tims. Maybe I'm forgiven for my observations about your favorite defenseman.

Hey Schelle, does this mean I'm back on your Christmas card list....hope so!

stuck between a rock and a hard place

If you go and read the article in Canes Country on the cap space you realize that Rutherford is stuck. Too much money spent on a bunch of under-performing veterans. We can talk all we want about who is or is not performing but Rutherford is in a jam with the cap. Seems to me that we all just have to sit back and watch a lot of losses for the season and admire the other teams players...just like we did in the 2002 season after the cup run....that produced Staal. There is always a silver lining......

is it too late?

I like every other cane fan is frustrated ,I have posted about what I thought was wrong [IN JULY}, the math is against us but it is still possible to turn the season around........go canes

More On Nicky, A. Ward & Brindy

If Wallin, Aaron Ward and Brindy (bless his heart) take the ice tonight, we're toast. The game has passed Nicky by — Ward seems to have forgotten how to play the game — and Brind'Amour, as painful as it is to watch, has no game. You can't have three players like that on the ice and expect to win. It's obvious they're affecting play, dragging everyone down and they have to be infecting the room. JR has some tough decisions to make and the sooner he makes them, the sooner the Canes turn this disaster around.

THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS TEAM THAT LOSING WALLIN, A.WARD

I posted this initially at another site, but here's my take on the situation It isn't rocket science to figure out what is going on:

As for me, I had one rare moment of clarity as I read all the various posts about the atrocious year we are having:

THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS TEAM THAT LOSING WALLIN, A.WARD AND BRIND’AMOUR WOULDN’T HELP

I’d be hating life as a Carolina Hurricane player if every game I went into the locker room and saw these three (Wallin, A.Ward, Brind’Amour) nice, intelligent, kind, slow-footed, complacent, and essentially non-contact players dragging me down and hurting my chances of winning a Stanley Cup. It’s like having to try to win when the coach puts the athletic director’s twin sons on the team when you know they need to be keeping the stats in the pressbox.

It isn’t really complex as far as the analysis. It may be complex in terms of the personalities and team politics. Banish the players that don’t have it in them to perform and replace them with younger, hungrier, bigger, faster players who see what a privilege it is to play in the NHL.

A.Ward

I was always a fan of Aaron Ward. Smart, funnt, well spoken guy that is going to be a natural in the booth one day. (Remeber his stint in the booth a number of years ago?)

But playing on a very good Bruins team and being partnered with Chara may have given a false impression of his abilities. Why JR didn't spend the money on Seidenberg instead is a mystery. Seidenberg paid his dues, being a healthy scratch because of the "numbers " on defense, and played well once given a starting role.

Time has passed Rutherford by and this team needs a fresh look up at the top.  This team is heading toward a rebuilding era and the man behind the wheel has wrecked the car way to many times to give him the keys to a new car.  Put aside the friendship Pete and save your franchise from becoming the Carolina Clippers instead of the Carolina Hurricanes. Please!

JR didn't sign Seidenberg

JR didn't sign Seidenberg because Seidenberg wanted a multi-year contract at a substantial salary. With good blue-talent almost ready (Rodney, Borer, Carson, McBain, and Bellemore), the plan apparently is to build a defense for 2010-2011 that mixes those inexpensive players with Pitkanen and Gleason, who are both 26. This lineup of seven D-men will last for years and will leave enough salary cap to spend on forwards. But the judgment was that the Albany players weren't ready, so Aaron Ward was signed as a fill-in player for a single season.

What??

Seidenberg ended up signing a 1 year deal with the Cats for 2.2 mil.  JR could have signed Seidenberg had he stayed with it. And while there is blueline talent waiting in the AHL, nobody is a sure bet and at least one of those guys wouldn't make the big club next year, while Seidenberg is still relativly young for a defenseman and is a proven steady performer. Personally Gleasons only advantage over Seidenberg is that he's been willing to fight, although it seems he no longer has the green light.  I am not an expert, as no one here is, but I would have secured Seidenburg.

Yes, Seidenberg did cut a

Yes, Seidenberg did cut a one-year deal -- but that was in September, after he and his agent had held out as long as they could for a multi-year deal. For a while, it appeared Seidenberg was going to sign with the Rangers. What was JR supposed to do, leave an open slot for Seidenberg until a week before camp -- like Florida did? That's a risky proposition. I liked Seidenberg, but he painted himself into a corner with his negotiating tactics. Gleason was already under contract through June 2012.

Don't forget that JR dumped

Don't forget that JR dumped Eaves in the trade that brought A. Ward back to NC.  At the time the trigger was pulled, Seids was not budging on wanting a multi-year deal.  If JR waited it out, perhaps Seids would have signed a 1 year deal, but we'd still have Eaves 9and more dead weight).

 Too bad, I like Seids.

Good points

You are right, JR did dump Eaves, which was a good thing because he's done nothing but get hurt in "Hockeytown"

Good points too on Seidenberg. And although it's easy to second guess after the fact, JR gets paid to do this kind of stuff, so he could have held a spot for Seidenburg knowing Rodney was ready to play as well as he has, and fill that spot- which is something a GM should know about his depth.  But I'll agree that he did try with Seidenberg, just wish he could have stayed.  JR has painted himself into a very tight corner, and only the team finding a way to win and stay healthy can help him find any way out.  If another team's GM has a fancy for any players on this team they could find a very attractive deal here shortly.

isn't it

too bad the GM's  get paid based on the points their team has ?? Gee the JR would be having to declare bankrupcy huh ? hehehe...

Go Canes !!

Get Used to Having Them Around

I'll add another dimension to your "get rid of" list...and you know what's coming next....the name Tim Gleason. Are these old eyes deceiving me or did I actually see an" A "on  Gleason's sweater last game?  Mirage. Cannot believe that!

We can't shed Wallin (no trade clause); We'll keep Brind'Amour...not because he has another contract year, but because he's considered the "face" of the team and management seems to want him to be a Hurricane longer than any other player; Aaron Ward is a lost cause and Alberts...same story.

Mr. Ruherford is resting in the bed he created for himself...and us. I say us because a pair of season tickets are rather dear in terms of $$$. We are a team with old legs and limited-talent players. We have the horses up front to make a run for the playoffs, Ruutu, Samsonov, Cullen, LaRose, Staal, C. Ward, Jokinen, Pitkanen, Corvo and a couple of others, but continuing to hire warm bodies for basement prices will not win a Cup.

I'm wondering if we (the fans) are going to get a rebate on our season tickets in return for the poor play we're getting. I suspect the Hurriances management expect value for dollar returned when they buy something.

We may now see an overcorrection, some radical decision that attempts to right the boat that only causes more problems. Our current position is not a coaching problem. I doubt that God could win with this team...no sacrilige intended!

Yet, I still maintain this is my team, I'll continue to support it no matter what, all the while reserving the right to protest the fact fans are paying for the tickets only to see older, nonproductive and limited talent players continue to stumble around on the ice. We are told the Hurricanes are solvent...then please put some money into better defensive players.

With all of that said, I can now expect "my friend" Schelle (sp) to tell us how good Tim is. Well, isn't that what this site is for, differing opinions?

Good luck tonight boys. This win will  break our losing streak.

Amen

Simple, direct and right on the money.

And the Answer is.....

The answer is definitely not sending Tim Conboy to the minors, the answer is on the ice, in the lockeroom, and at the front office. Lets start with the front office, the owner and GM have the obligation to the fans and the entire organization to put together a team that is set up for success and part of that success is to compete with the entire league year to year. The owner, Mr. Karmanos and the GM, have the burden of leadership and part of that burden is to make the tough decisions that will send a statement to the team and the loyal fans who support the organization. Some of these tough decisions could be requiring a few veterans to be benched, possibly a change at Captain, a coaching change, or lets go one step further a change at the GM position, bottom line is a finger in the chest mentality is not evident and the stands at the RBC Center will possibly start to develop cob webbs because there are no fans seating in those seats. I am not sure what player was quoted after the Kings game, but I believe he made the comment that hard work is required, but it is required on the ice for 60 minutes. I may be off on the actual quote, but the message is so simple and not a complex situation, play hockey for 60 minutes and play with a heart and fire in that heart and things will start to change. Hopefully tonight the Canes with the support of the Caniac nation will find the coveted answer against the Islanders. Go Canes :~) !!!

While I'm

Listening to the Wild & Bolts game (3-1 Wild in the 3rd) i am reminded that and while this sport called Hockey that many of us love and follow passionately, we are torn in various directions. Many of us fans do think we ought to get what we pay for, as Season Tickets do cost alot more than even when i was a kid some 50 years ago. But many of us who aren't as knowledgeable about the business end of NHL Hockey do forget that this is a business. Like or not, it doesn't change the fact that NHL hockey in Raleigh is a private business and not owned or operated by the city or county. With that said, many fans do get upset when ( like now) we don't see the changes we are used to seeing, or doing at the snap of a finger or a blink of an eye...So isn't it natural that all of fans here ( including myself) at times expect more that what is actually produced and delivered ? I know i do. we of today are what i call the " burger king, fast food mentality of We can have it all our way, right a way, everyday. As many have grown up with instant pudding, instant credit, micro wave pop corn, fast cars, faster internet, cell phones & text messages. So in many ways we are all spoiled. Grant you we'd love to see the Canes first in the conference, and the division. with what 34 points...Yet we have what we have. last place and just 7 points. But we all know that this will get better, yesterday would have been nice, but let us not forget that while we have just a small stake in the canes and we do claim the team as ours and not believe all the hype the promotions department pumps out....we must be patient...yes it's tough and hard. but this won't last for ever...even though it feels like it ! I don't have any better answers or ideas than any of you. We aint JR...and with all said & done, none of us really truly want his job. Why ? "when i right, no one remembers, but when I'm wrong, no one forgets !!" and who here really want's that kind of junk hanging around their necks ?? I don't !! well i have said all i can think of that would or possibly help...it's now 3-2 lightning with 3:13 left to go. enjoy the day tomorrow as the rain is moving on, and so will this losing streak...

Go Canes !!

Before Conboy there were

Before Conboy there were Boulerice, Langdon, and Grimson. None of these tough guys lasted long or contributed much to the Canes.

NOT MISSING THE FOREST FOR THE TREES

I came across a very interesting article which talked about the situation for the Red Wings and the Hurricanes. Here's the link:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/10356566/Wings,-'Canes-can't-panic

Here are some portions of the article:
*****************************************************************
Wings, 'Canes can't panic
by Ryan Dixon, The Hockey News

. . . . .[For the Hurricanes] Why not stick with the dramatic season-to-season swings, take a top-three pick in next June's draft and add it to an already impressive mix of prospects that includes Brandon Sutter, Zach Boychuk and Drayson Bowman.

Put potential No. 1 overall pick Taylor Hall on a team that already has Staal in his prime and you've got the makings of something special. . . .

But GM Jim Rutherford can't cough up valuable young assets in a misguided attempt to slap a bandage on this already-disastrous season.

The best course of action — for both Carolina and Detroit — is to swallow some medicine and return spittin' mad.
****************************************************************

A player like Taylor Hall on the Hurricanes would transform the team for years to come. Nobody I know who plays hockey or watches hockey has a personality that loves to lose. Having been able to attend the games in the 2005-2006 season, I would never claim it is more fun to watch the Hurricanes' stumbling and bumbling along than to watch them clean house and take no prisoners. Sometimes, however, things come apart -- in sports and in life. I appreciated Ryan Dixon's article as a reminder that it is the body of work, not a single season, that defines a franchise and defines the relationship of the fans to their team. I have kept the imagine of Taylor Hall scoring in the RBC alongside some very talented Hurricanes players as I watch pucks missing sticks, and a couple of veterans giving Grandma love taps rather than bone-crushing checks to the opposing team. Tomorrow is another day at the RBC. We'll be there; pretty hockey, or ugly hockey, we'll be there.

yea but with Mo as Coach...our ceiling is really low

The Guy does not produce consistent winners...just look at his profile...he may have a decent year once...and last year was evidently the one...most likely as a result of being forced to stick with Lavi's system for the most part with a little tweaking. Now with his system and style entrenched we see the results. Also JR is going to bust the bank to try to find a way to get enough points that Canes finish in 12th or 13th while spinning the situation to save face for his best friend Mo. Leaving us with a losing coach and poor draft position to go along with missing playoffs.

yeah but

Even if they make last in the league, there's this little thing called "lottery".  The Cane's luck lately would indicate they'll lose the lottery.

This season IS done.  It would take a miraculous remaining season to get to the playoffs.  So, all I would like is some decent effort and a few wins.  JR has salary caps, and RFA/UFA clocks to consider before bringing up all of Albany.  (Seemingly, many people want to see the entire rats team up here.)  JR has to be careful.  Even so, we need some of those guys, and JR should jettison some vets at the right time (later this season) when cup seeking teams will be knocking.

After all that, we can hope for a good lottery.

Gee who would

thought that here in Raleigh, NC there would be a real live "soap opera" at the professional NHL level too ! See...anything is possible here in NC now !! Oh ye of "little faith"...but on the flip side a 3 game win streeak would be nice huh ? after all, who wants to eat " buzzard for thanksgiving we we all got "turkey" already...and we didn't have to go to food lion to get some either did we...esteban looks at whgat he wrote...looks for his trash can...as what he sees, while being the trith...still is very very unsettling...Who knows maybe, just maybe the canes can & will turn things around...At least i really am hoping so !!

Go Canes !!! anybody....everybody...PLEASE !!!

I'm still very optimistic

I'm still very optimistic about this team, but there are somethings I perceive as mistakes.  I would love a turnaround like all other fans.  But we have to look at what we've got and how we get out of this mess.

Mistakes we knew we were making.

There have been a lot of questionable moves in my mind since we won the cup, most of these are more recent moves though.
- Letting Matt Cullen go for more money, only to re-acquire him when other options failed at the NYR signed contract. He should have been given a better deal and Brind'Amour given less.
- Signing of Niclas Wallin to a long deal with a no trade clause. Biggest head scratcher of all to me.
- Signing Brind'Amour to a "loyalty" contract for 5 years at that price tag
- Letting Seidenberg walk away to only re-acquire Aaron Ward who has been awful this year.
- Offering Tim Conboy a one way deal and letting Bayda go. Really, Bayda had some offensive upside. I love Conboy for what he is, but he doesn't get much ice so why not have some more offense there? Koustoupolous can do what Conboy does as well and can at least PK. Alberts can also chuck if needed.
- Signing Yelle instead of letting Sutter be our fourth line center. In my opinion Sutter has been great since he's been called up. Why this move was made after Sutter had such a great camp is a mystery to me.
- Saying a top 6 six spot was up for Rodney to lose and then signing more veterans.
- All the talk of Brind'Amour not being guaranteed a top 9 spot after last season and then still sinking with him this year. He is consistently on the ice and can't keep up with the game. He had 3 turnovers in one sequence last night.
Sorry for rambling on, I've just had time to think about these things lately.

Mistakes we knew we were making

Dustin,

Good talking points!  I would like to comment on a few of them...you are 100% right about the 'Error Ward' trade.  I guess it was a publicity stunt as he was introduced at the caniac carnival.  Since then; his play at every situation has shown his limitations.  I mean he could not even tie up Ryan Smith in front of the net!!  I knew that Patrick Eaves was a wasted trade from Ottawa but this acquisition beat that for sure.

The BrindAmor signing I was fine with, and so were many other Caniacs until he had major knee surgery and now he is a liability on the ice.  It was evident last year upon his return and it is still a factor this year.  If the knee did not happen he would have been one of our finest players, JMHO.  I like the fact that GM is trying to keep the young players in tact at AHL so they can grow together and understood the business side of Sutter.  However, he is the best player on the ice and for me; he stays here for rest of the year.  The same goes for the Rodney situation.  I think he will be one of our better offensive d-man in the next year.  But with all the veterans screwing up and dropping like flies - he should be given a 20 game performance calendar.  The guy has talent and will jump in anytime during the rush.

I was not a fan of the TK deal and thought fighting in the league was down since 06.  Apparently, GM's feel the need for it and if that is what TK is for - so be it!  Just don't waste ice time with him.  He is a bench warmer for sure.  As for Nicky, well....he has his moments.  But that was when he was not counted on to perform daily.  Now that he has the spotlight he can't really do much with puck or defend.

Now, some players who are still in the prime are certainly shying away from making plays.  Cole, Ruttu, Samsonov, LaRose are not even trying to get those dirty goals.  Corvo, Alberts and Gleason can't hit the net with consistency.  I sure miss boom boom Babchuck!  At least he played with the edge even though he could not defend much.  He had goals!  How many do we have from our defense right now?

One last head scratcher that you failed to menton...Leighton!  This guy is a failed project and it's time he return to AHL where he belongs.  He has been given every opportunity to pull out wins for us only to flop around like a fish out of water.  He can't stop the puck and for a guy with his size; he should be a brick wall!!

So I added on to your rambling and I call it like I see it.  Anybody else?  I am a hockey fan, a caniac, and will always be a caniac.  I just have to critize the players that need to hear/read about it because this losing streak is plain awful to see.  Where is the heart?

Legace

I say we give Manny one more chance, and then send him down since he is on a two way. Then bring Peters up. What have we got to lose? If he knows he's going into a hard situation, it shouldn't hurt his psyche. If it does, we know that he's a career AHLer.

Heck swap all the two way contracts that are currently up in the NHL with players down in the AHL and give them a shot. Its almost at the point of no return, and I usually don't say this, or like when people do, but we're almost playing for a top draft pick.

Legace

I say....it is too early to thow in that Legace towel.  Like Cam Ward, he can't stop all pucks if the defense just stands around and let's guys get in front without much of a challenge.  He had zero chance on the two PP goals and really wasn't at total fault for a third.  I would keep on with Legacy - we can't use Leighton.  He is a cupcake in goal.  I agree with your point about bringing in the AHL'ers but its' too early.  Let's wait until we are officially mathematically eliminated; say around middle of February.  That's when we have a fire sale and get rid of some players who forget that they have the best job in the world!  They are playing something the love and getting paid good money for it.  Athletes are the top percentage salary earners in this country.   Don't you wish you could get paid to do something you love?

Lou is right

Here;s an opinioin worth reading.  Legacy played pretty well behind the mess that's in front of him.  And Leighton has had chances but has merely proved that he's not capable of carrying the load.

I actually thought the Canes were better than the result the other night.  They dominated most of the 2nd period and part of the 3rd and really had LA on their heels until Peel squashed their momentum with that ticky tack call.  The players deserve to be extremely frustrated after that game.

If they thought Peters

If they thought Peters could play at the NHL level, they wouldn't have signed Legace.  And they didn't sign Manny for him to play in just two games. Since he has more NHL experience than Peters and Leighton combined, you can believe that he's going to stick here unless he completely screws up.

JR

I am glad that I did not renew my season tickets for this year.  Does anyone understand what Rutherford is doing to the team?

JR

I am glad that I did not renew my season tickets for this year.  Does anyone understand what Rutherford is doing to the team?

Conboy

Since he has a one way contract even if he clears waivers and gets sent down the team still pays him his contracted amount. Why JR made the 2nd year of his contract a one way is beyond me. I think JR was hoping someone would show interest so he could be moved. He is a heart and soul guy that doesn't complain, but he's not very effective at the NHL level and as a fighter he'll take on anyone but really is not a heavyweight.
This move is Rutherford trying to make space for Boychuk, I believe. He is trying something which is good, but he is fighting his own poor decisions made in the past in giving Conboy a 1 way deal this year.
If I was Karmanos I would be livid if indeed the Canes signing of Legace does put them close to the cap and they have 7 points going into mid-November. Signing Legace was a good thing under the unforeseen circumstances, but no way a team with only 7 points should be close enough that signing Legace puts them close to the cap. Tired of wasting your money, Pete??

GM Change

Impossible. Pony Tail Pete loves him.

Jr is watching the salary cap.

We can't bring Boychuk up much more. JR put us close to the NHL Salary Cap when he picked up Legace. He now has $910 thousand left to play with (nhlnumbers.com) so bringing Boychuk full time would put us even closier to the cap.

JR will have to move some salary before he could bring him up full time. Hey, here's an idea. Buy out Brindy for $2 mil-a-yr and that would clear another $2 million for this year!

Just a thought!

I could be wrong, but I

I could be wrong, but I don't think that is the case.  NHLNumbers.com includes all salary numbers, whether they are currently at the big club or not.  For example, Jay Harrison is included in that cap hit but he is in the minors now.  Same for Michael Ryan.  Also, since Cam is on IR I don't believe that his salary counts.

Next to waivers...

Hey, when do you think they can put JR on waivers? lol

Conboy wasn’t playing anyway

Fine. Conboy wasn’t playing and seemed to have fallen pretty far on the depth chart. But if this is a precursor to calling up a nothing, career AHL-er like Pat Dwyer, I will lose my mind.

I can deal with losing. It’s part of being a fan. I cannot deal with these bush league moves. Pat Dwyer isn’t going to fix anything. Boychuk is good. Boychuk makes a difference. Bowman would be good, I’d like to see what he can bring to the table. Conboy offers little on the ice, but is at least entertaining.

I will NOT spend big money on seats to watch old, minor league talent like of Pat Dwyer. Exciting young players - sure. Proven NHL vets – sure. Bruisers who run around causing trouble – sure.

Actually I already have spent big money, since I am a season ticket holder, but I will definitely be rethinking that position next year. Losing is one thing, being bored as well as frustrated and disgusted is not worth my money.

Boychuk/Bowman

I agree, what do we have to lose, especially against a young team like NYI. Throw em in there - sink or swim. Those 2 have risen to the top everywhere they've played, might as well find out if they can make the jump to the NHL, sooner than later.

Gee J.R.

YOU FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM!!! Good catch!!!

Nice move (rolling eyes).

FYI....I also see AWard and Wallen raising their hands.

Without Conboy, we don't have anyone who can take care of business. Tim Gleason can, but they don't want him doing that. I understand the reasoning, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it...especially when all the other teams will take advantage knowing that we have no one who will stand up to their bullies.

Conboy is NO enforcer...

...nor has he ever been.  He's sometimes fun to watch but  he's mainly a crazy dude who can create some havoc but has little sense of the right time to start a scrap or even of who to take on.  He has taken some costly penalties that have created more problems than they solved.  And he's lost more fights than he's "won"!  No one in the NHL is afraid of him.

We have several guys who play with an edge and can handle themselves well when the gloves do come off: as you mention, Gleason, Walker, Alberts, Kostopoulos, AWard...  We could use someone like Georges Laraque, who can actually play hockey as well  but Tim has never been that guy.

Oh Well

I agree that Conboy should stay to take care of business, but apparently JR found the reason behind our losing streak being the most underpaid players on the team.  We went through this a while ago.

Dare I say it and bring Boulerice back?  We have no enforcer and they think that placing Conboy on waivers is the answer.

Now I can say I am ascared for Friday.

Conboy

He'll probably clear. I wonder if the Canes had another upbeat practice today or did they get bag skated? I'm guessing Friday's lineup will have Boychuk + another forward and maybe Rodney in it - will Pitkanen play? And what's the status of Walker and Yelle (day to day I'm guessing)?
