With defender Niclas Wallin injured in last night's 2-1 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Carolina Hurricanes called up defenseman Brett Carson.
This is the first time Carson, 23, has been called up to the NHL. He had a goal and 10 assists with the AHL's Albany River Rats so far this season.
Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice had said after Saturday night's loss that he wasn't optimistic that Wallin would be available to play Sunday. Wallin suffered a lower body injury early in the third period and did not return.
To make room for Carson on the roster, the Canes moved Cam Ward to injured reserve.
The Hurricanes face their Southeast Division rival, the Washington Capitals, tonight (Sunday) at 5 p.m. in a contest that won't be locally televised.
