There may be no hockey but there still will be a Caniac Carnival.

The 13th annual Caniac Carnival will be held Sunday at PNC Arena from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This year’s Carnival will feature activities inside and outside of the arena, and parking and admission to the event are free and open to the public.

Outside of the arena will inflatable rides, interactive games and booths, a toddler zone, sports area, live music and appearances by Hurricanes mascot Stormy and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad. Inside the arena, fans can play street hockey on the arena floor, take pictures on the team bench, in the penalty box or with the Olympia ice resurfacer.

Stormy will sign autographs from 11 a.m. until noon, and 1-2 p.m. on the main concourse outside of Section 124, and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad will sign autographs and take pictures from noon until 2 p.m. at the same location.

Beginning at 9 a.m., fans can sign up for the Crazy Caniac Challenge IV, which will consist of running a lap around the outside of PNC Arena, eating two hot dogs, drinking a 12-ounce Pepsi product and then completing a final lap. The race will begin at 10 a.m., and all proceeds from the $15 entry fee will benefit the Carolina Hurricanes Kids ‘N Community Foundation.

During the Carnival, the Hurricanes will be hosting a blood drive to benefit the Rex Blood Services community blood bank. The Rex Blood Services bloodmobile will be on site from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The NHL has been officially

The NHL has been officially renamed the NO HOCKEY LEAGUE!  Imagine holding an event centered around your hockey team which always has featured the players and many years a game of hockey and then suddenly holding the same event featuring your Mascot signing autographs as teh headliner...what a stupid decision to move forward.  If Petey has locked his doors and shut down the product...why bother with anything like a watered-down Caniac Carnival.  The negative publicity that comes from this event this year will only highlight the fact that many hardcore Canes fans have had enough!

Wow

I just don't get the reasoning behind this.  They have said that they don't want to take away a family fun event.  Seriously, I can think of way better things to do with my time than waste it here.  As one person said, no hockey =no participation.  I know plenty of people were voicing disgust about this on their FB page.  Sort of pointless to have this if you ask me.

Boycott

Love Stormy but I am not a hockey fan, and a Canes fan because of our loveable mascott.

Mr Karmanos and the Canes org have a lot of nerve holding this event after locking out the players and  threatening the season.  It is clear the owners,  in our case Mr Karmanos,  are pretty sure they can show no regard for the customer by shutting down the NHL and have us running back when hockey does return. But do they think a majority of fans will attend an event like this, which is supposed to celebrate the return of hockey season, while they are withholding the goods?  None of this expired CBA/lockout  has anything to do with us, and once resolved the fans will not benefit financially. Can't say the same for whoever ends up the big winner once a new CBA is signed off.  The common man is getting pinched harder financially, while the price of watching NHL hockey goes up.  So yeah, I am not in the mood to come to your little party.

Never missed one...

Till this year!!  No hockey?  No participation

Caniac Carnival is still a Go

Ah but will there be any Caniacs there?

The ONLY positive thing

The ONLY positive I see from this event is that PNC and Canes' staff/employes will have an event to work. As an extremely frustrated STH, I'll be staying far, far away this year.

Fans need to weigh in...

Fans should show their displeasure with the current mess by voting with their feet.  The NHL needs to get the message that the fanbase is losing patience and interest....fast.
