The Carolina Hurricanes' television ratings since the start of the season are down slightly from last year's figures for the same time period, according to Nielsen Co. research. The Nielsen Co. reports that the hockey team drew a 1.0 rating in the Raleigh-Durham market through Nov. 16, down from 1.2, or a 17 percent decline. For more, go to:

Consider the source
Tue, 12/09/2008 - 11:14 — fourcornersI am a consistent viewer when I can't make the game, but for people who are on the fringe in deciding whether they want to tune in, don't you think a broadcast that cuts to commercial THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS while we're ON THE ICE will lose a few sets of eyes here and there (Philadelphia game)? It's like cutting away as soon as a football team hits the red zone.
The really frustrating thing
Mon, 12/08/2008 - 20:10 — CanarseThe really frustrating thing is when you see the opposing team is broadcasting the Canes game in HD, but it's not available from Fox Sports Carolina!
One thing to consider...The Canes have had several Sunday games. Broadcasting a hockey game in the middle of a NFL Sunday isn't all that good of an idea. If you are going to leave out a game that would be the one.
Seeing I - To All
Mon, 12/08/2008 - 19:05 — esteban1949don't watch TV,via either cable or Sat services...due to all the crap and ton upon tons of commercials for things I don't want need or desire, Why should I be concerned, if my dead grandmother's or Mo's dirty socks & underwear are on live in HD someplace in the triangle ...let alone the triad...what is next pay per view live action in the RBC parking lot going to be ? To see if a traffic control person gets mugged by a group of 3 granny aged Hurricanes fans for not allowing them to park closer to the front door ?? Gee I hope not !! HD??/ Oh Pluuuease !!
What?
Mon, 12/08/2008 - 22:48 — wxray1Hey este, put down whatever you are smoking. That post made almost no sense.
I don't - to wxray1
Tue, 12/09/2008 - 09:15 — esteban1949Sorry ...but I don't smoke, drink, dip nor chew! my point was and is, that and seeing i don't watch TV ( and yes I do own one) it is NOT hooked up to any broadcast media outlets so i really don't give a flying fig...if anything is in or ever in HD or any other format...Now if we fans who buy DVD's can get the price of blue ray down...then maybe i could upgrade...after all that's cheeper than "season tickets" is it not ?
Hope this helps...
Go Canes !!
You are one fan out of
Tue, 12/09/2008 - 12:10 — RX7RavenYou are one fan out of thousands. Just because you don't want HD doesn't mean the majority of the other fans who enjoys television don't either. (DVR does wonders for not watching commercials.)
I may Be - To RX7Raven
Tue, 12/09/2008 - 15:15 — esteban1949I may very well be one of say 10-15,000 state wide( more or less) who chooses not to watch what stuff is on TV,cable or Sat service...but still come february of next year (2009) everything will be in HD...including a fights over parking spaces at RBC...to the "average " fan or person...does it really matter if you can't see in HD when a player or fan gets a 3 in.gash or loses 2 teeth when getting hit in the face with a puck or a stick ?
If they do...then maybe the Raleigh Sports group needs to try and bring a group that will bring old style Galdiator games with the blood & gore...sigh...be my luck the RBC would have a sellout for that...sigh
Not HD, Just Digital
Tue, 12/09/2008 - 16:31 — richardfocEverything will not be in HD come February of next year. The change coming in February is simply that all television will be broadcast via a digital signal and will no longer be broadcast using an analog signal.

FSC HD is already available
Mon, 12/08/2008 - 18:33 — robotron2084FSC HD is already available on TWC here in my area (Durham-Chapel Hill) on channel 272. It's doesn't always have programming as it appears it only broadcasts when there's a game actually available in HD. This is actually slightly ahead of schedule as I believe it was due to begin airing on 12/18 (hmmm, the day the Canes play Florida - guess we'll see what we get then though I'll be at the game).

Mon, 12/08/2008 - 17:55 — RX7RavenI live in Wilmington and the last game that was supposedly supposed to be in HD was not. I was able to watch the game on FSN/FSC but Carolinahurricanes.com listed that game as available in HD (it was the game against Pitt). From what I see, Carolina Hurricanes games were broadcasted in HD on Mojo down here. Mojo is an HD channel that no longer exists and therefore any Carolina Hurricanes games that are supposed to be in HD I won't get. This is irrate. I love going to the games but the second best thing is watching it in HD. I wish TWC and the Canes would get on the ball and get the TV coverage where it needs to be.
HD content
Mon, 12/08/2008 - 17:36 — rmmeliIt would help if TWC and FS Carolinas would wake up to the fact that people have HD TV's and provide the right programming. I know people in other regions who say that most of their games are on HD (e.g. Boston) and ours (virtually) are all broadcast in SD.
TV Schedule
Mon, 12/08/2008 - 17:17 — RangerRickCould it have anything to do with the near-random availability of games on TV? A couple of reasonably high-profile games (Washington!) have not even been available unless you have Center Ice.
In addition, I'd hazard a decent percentage of the folks who watch the games are watching on Time-Warner cable. Since the inception of the new software in their DVRs you can no longer program in a blanket Hurricanes keyword to record the games. Instead, you have to remember to individually record each game no more than a couple of weeks before it's on (since the schedule data on the DVR is only a few weeks out).
VERY frustrating, I'm about ready to give up on cable altogether.
