This is a first for the Canes as far as I know:
The Carolina Hurricanes will host the Canes Summer Fun Fest at the RBC Center on Thursday, July 24 at 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free and there will be plenty to do for the whole family, including street hockey, various interactive inflatables and live music. Food will be offered at discount prices and we will re-live the famous "Miracle at Molson" game at 9 p.m. Hurricanes players and coaches are scheduled to appear.
This will also be a first chance for the general public to view the available seats for our 2008-09 ticket plans. Fans will have the opportunity to pick out seats for full season tickets and 26-game plans. Hurricanes players and coaches are scheduled to appear.
The schedule should be out by then (I'd expect to see it Wednesday, the 16th) so you'll at least know who's coming to town. And believe me, if you missed the Miracle at Molson the first time around, it's totally worth seeing.
And in case you missed it the first two times: Hurricanes players and coaches are scheduled to appear.

Hurricanes Pre-season game
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 20:13 — Chris (not verified)I know its a bit early. But I wonder if there is going to be another free pre-season game later on come September? The carnival at the RBC Center just had got me to thinking about it because last year and the year before last they held the carnival on the day of the pre-season game. Does anyone have any information on this?
Probably a send off
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 19:42 — Anonymous (not verified)Maybe Cole will be there and they want to honor him in some way. You never know...
Fun fest ??
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 17:06 — Steve Henderson (not verified)Sounds like a blast...and all of that...but still at 4.00 a gallon...I think I'll have to pass the puck once again...even if Rosie were to be there...Glad the canes are keeping him for at least another year...If more player wouldplay with the heart and brass tacks he and Rod have...then maybe...just maybe...we can make the playoffs this season...that is IF everyone stays healthy...and and the other front running teams at that time all turn around and head for home...
Well one can dream can't we ??
Fun Fest
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 13:14 — schelle92 (not verified)I totally agree with d-lee. This game sort of ushered in the "modern era" Hurricanes. This was when the Canes were finally starting to get at least a modicum of respect from the league. I am sad to see Cole go because not only was he a great player, but a great person whose relationship with the fans will be sorely missed. There doesn't have to be a "mourning period". If so, I would still be in mourning for Jeff O'Neill (yes, I admit to being a fan of his). I miss him and what he brought to the team. It will be nice to see all the Canes playing that are no longer with us, but are still here in our hearts and our memories.
I'm not getting your point,
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 12:00 — d-lee (not verified)I'm not getting your point, prince. Josef Vasicek, Bates Battaglia, Sami Kapinen, Sean Hill, Arturs Irbe and others also played key roles, and none of them are on the team anymore either. We still celebrate the game. Anyway, I'm pretty sure most people would say that Nic Wallin is the most memorable figure from the Miracle at Molson.
Just because Cole is gone (for now, anyway) doesn't mean we should cry every time someone mentions his name or lock those game tapes up in the dusty attic. We'd be hard-pressed to find a "classic Canes game" in which Cole didn't have a key role. Game 7 of the ECF is the only one I can think of. Or maybe a couple from before he got here.
Anyway, it's a huge part of Canes lore, and I'm glad they're showing it.
When I heard about this "fan fun fest", I sort of imagined that they'd use it to unveil the rumored alternate sweater. I guess we'll have to wait until the Caniac Carnival.
Any word on that, Luke?
hey
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 12:20 — wylde4canes (not verified)obviously I aint Luke, but I have heard Black with the Storm Warning Flag on the tsick should patch as the chest emblem!
third jersey
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 14:13 — ldecock (author)That's what I've heard as well. It was supposed to come out last season but they delayed it a year because of the new Reebok "uniform system."
I'll look into it.
Kind of like this one (concept)...
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 15:26 — penaltykiller74They have one here:

Cool ideas, and some bad ones. lol
Alternate Jersey
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 15:54 — LP (not verified)Personally I'd like see one that says Carolina on the chest and have a jersey with the strings (kind of like the Rangers). You would have to have 2 flags on the chest since one flag represents a Tropical Storm - not a Hurricane. That would take up too much room and look tacky. Keep it simple. And of course it has to be black - now that would be sharp!
I'm A Devoted Caniac but...
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 11:11 — penaltykiller74when is the "Cole Mourning Period" over?
Yes, he was crucial in that game, and one of the reasons it was a miracle, and no one can ever take that away. But its true that after his injury, he never has played the same. He even admits it on the 10th Anniversary video.
Trust me, he was one of my favorite players. I've met him and talked to him about our kids, have his autograph on my jersey forever, but any sports team is one you can't get attached to players, not everyone there is a franchise player.
I'm sure Brind'amour thought he was going to stay in Philly, but he didn't. Ron Francis didn't even stay with Hartford/Carolina his whole career. No offense but Cole is neither one of them. Without his injury, maybe, but that will never be known.
Concentrating on the leaving of one player, takes away from the arrival of the new one, which I'm sure is not how we want to treat our newly formed Blueline.
Maybe halfway through the season if Pitkanen is tanking and Cole is at the top of the leaderboard, then maybe.
But still, we are Caniacs, not "Cole-iacs."
GO CANES!!!
hmmm interesting
Thu, 07/10/2008 - 10:43 — aprince27They plan to show the 'Miracle at Molson' and maybe the most memorable figure of that game/series was traded last week.
Gotta love the choice of games on that one.
