Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said the Canes had no interest in trying to move into the second half of the first round tonight.
They're content to wait for their second-round pick, 45th overall, tomorrow morning, where they have a player targeted.
"We think he's going to be there," Rutherford said. "We'll sit and wait until that pick."
The Canes had offers to trade down, but after two of their short-listed defensemen went with the two picks before them — Tyler Myers and Colton Teubert — they decided to stay at 14 and take Zach Boychuk.
"We got a couple of calls about moving down but if we'd have moved down much further we certainly weren’t going to get Boychuk," Rutherford said. "We had the chance to get him and we felt we should stay there."
