Canes sign Murley

Bookmark and Share

The Canes have signed left wing Matt Murley to a one-year contract, the team announced today. The deal will pay Murley $500,000 on the NHL level or $100,000 on the AHL level, with a minimum guaranteed total salary of $125,000.

“Matt has had a lot of success in the American Hockey League and comes with NHL experience,” said Ron Francis, assistant GM and director of player personnel. “He is a strong depth forward who is capable of contributing on the NHL level or providing leadership and production in the AHL.”

Murley, 28, split the 2007-08 season between Phoenix and the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate in San Antonio. He had one assist in three games on the NHL level, and led all Rampage skaters in goals (28), assists (41) and points (62) in 76 AHL games.

Staal Contract Touchup

Looks like the Canes need to cross a couple of T's on Staal's contract around the No Trade Clause...

Matt Who ?

Sorry Chip not trying to dis the guy, but at 28..and more AHL experience than NHL... Ron & JR must be thinking of him as a back up ...like some of our River Rats did last year... but seeing they know that i do...I'll just be gracious and tell Matt...Welcome to the Canes !!! And good luck! esteban looks at the time...and figures it's time to check out the WHL Website..see what Spokane & ottowa are up to ...

And..

I don't think anyone was incinuating that Matt was going to start on our second line. It might not be a bad idea to get a bit more depth at the AHL level. I, for one, am tired of seeing our prospects given D+ grades and 76 overalls in hockey publications!
