The Canes now are optimistic that Rod Brind'Amour, injured in Game 7 against the Boston Bruins, will play Monday in the Eastern Conference final opener against Pittsburgh.
Brind'Amour suffered a laceration over the right eye after being hit by the puck early in overtime of the Canes' 3-2 victory in Game 7. He left the bench and did not return.
Pete Friesen, the team's head trainer, said today that Brind'Amour did not suffer a concussion and was "feeling better" today.

All the ESPN experts, Yahoo Sports, alll pick the Pen, only TSN Maggie the Monkey is picking the Canes. Even though she is only 4-8 so far I think she may have this one right.
Canes in 6 or 7. Not sure if my heart can take another game 7 OT but if it means a chance for the Cup I will have my doctor on speed dial.

Especially if the series goes 7 games, he said given our history.....he felt like the Canes would find a way to come out on top.
But, you're right - in general, everyone's going with the Pens. Out of curiosity, did anyone pick us to beat the Bruins?
And back on the subject, Roddy is an integral part of our team & we need him!! There's not a better captain in all of sports as far as I'm concerned.

Sat, 05/16/2009 - 11:11 — hockeyhickRod Brind'Amour may have slowed down a bit, but we need his experience and leadership to continue on in these playoffs. Since he sat a few games and got healthy, his play improved dramatically over the last third of the season. There is NO ONE in this league that I would want taking faceoffs in the playoffs other than Rod Brind'Amour.
His smarts and positional play make up for his decreased speed. And his "demotion" (which i think is the wrong way to term it) was due more to the outstanding play of Jussi Jokinen and not because he was playing poorly. Jussi HAD to get more ice time. And having Roddy on the fourth line helps to balance out to lines, especially minutes-wise. Not that they will get it, but the "fourth" line is capable of responsible and productive minutes to help keep the other lines fresh.
Roddy is in the twilight of his wonderful career, no doubt. But he is still the Captain of this ship, and until he becomes a liability (which he is NOT at the moment) he should be given the respect that comes along with that responsibility. I applaud him for continuing to be a team guy and giving his all on every shift, even if they are less frequent than he would like.

Sat, 05/16/2009 - 11:08 — MrKnockoffHere's brindy's numbers since March 1to the end of the season....+7, 8g, 11a, 19pts.....that's bettter than a point per game. If anything he should be getting more ice time, not less. He makes good decisions with the puck, is still a monster on faceoffs. If he played with wingers not named eaves then more scoring would be there. Plus he's had more of a physcial presence lately (ask recchi), and is obviously fast enough to play the point on the pk.
