The Canes were down a goaltender at practice today, but Michael Leighton's absence was understandable.
His wife, Jennifer, gave birth to Annalise Mae Leighton early Friday morning. It was the couple's second child.
Leighton will make the trip to Philadelphia for tomorrow's game against the Fyers, coach Paul Maurice said today. The Canes are home Sunday to face the San Jose Sharks, and Leighton could be in goal.
"We'll see how his night and his day work today and then make a decision after that," Maurice said. "I want to work another goalie in this weekend but I want to talk to him first."
The Canes will be taking on a Flyers team that has lost a few games, had an off day
cancelled and should be in a foul mood for the 1 p.m. game.
"Everybody's grumpy. So it's even," Maurice said.
UPDATE: It appears Danny Briere may not be able to play.
