The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenserman Ian White to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the Sharks' second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
White, 26, came to the Canes in a November trade with the Calgary Flames. He played 39 games with Carolina, totaling no goals and 10 assists.
White's name first surfaced in trade speculation Wednesday and he was a healthy scratch that night in the road game against the New Jersey Devils. He practiced with the Canes on Thursday and was at the morning skate today at the RecZone.

A Raleigh native, Chip has worked at the N&O since 1979 and is the Canes beat writer. He can be reached at

Sat, 02/19/2011 - 17:21 — robotron2084so JR just got a 2nd round pick for a guy that may have been gone for nothing in July.
Just getting started

Bizarre. Either White did
Fri, 02/18/2011 - 18:27 — ctillBizarre. Either White did something to put himself in the penalty box here, or JR dumped salary to make room for another player about to arrive. I don't know anything about Joslin, but with so many prospects (Carson, Rodney, Borer, Bellemore, Sanguinetti) already in the pipeline, I wonder how much we need yet another 20-something D'man.
