The Carolina Hurricanes announced this morning that another five players have been assigned to the Albany (N.Y.) River Rats, the club's American Hockey League affiliate.
With the cuts, the Canes are left with 27 players in training camp, including young centers Brandon Sutter, 20, and Zach Boychuk, 19.
The five players assigned to Albany were: forwards Drayson Bowman and Steven Goetzen; defensemen Bryan Rodney and Brett Carson; and goaltender Justin Peters. The River Rats' training camp opens Wednesday.

if you think thats...
Wed, 09/23/2009 - 15:19 — esteban1949If you think That's bad...I just found out late yesterday that Phil Jankic the guy who does a majority of the rats coverage there in the Schenectady/Albany Area is gone...and the Flyers yesterday sent down 19 to their AHL team the phantoms ...man that had to be a shock for some of them...so we here in Canes country are sitting rather well. Both here and in Albany...now if the Canes could just win one preseaon game, I'd be even happier...and for the record...I think this new format stinks...like the lockeroom does after a game...:-}
Go Canes !!

i did too
Tue, 09/22/2009 - 12:58 — esteban1949but even with his good record in and with the Skane Chiefs...he would need some time there so he could be better prepared so If and When he were to be called up, he'd have some much needed experience that the Canes will surely need... but i was pulling for him...one of grand daughters back home there in Spokane has had a mega crush on him...Go figure!!!
Go Canes !!
Chiefs
Tue, 09/22/2009 - 14:05 — GoShelfNot surprising - it's definitely one of the main draws in Spokane, they've got one of the best arenas in the Dub. I've been to about a dozen games there, always enjoyed the road trip.
Bowman
Tue, 09/22/2009 - 11:35 — GoShelfI would have thought Bowman would have lasted a little longer.
