TAMPA — Just when it seemed the Lightning might be breaking away to an easy win, the Canes charged back to take the lead and the win.
Justin Williams and Chad LaRose scored goals in a span of 1:11 to give the slow-starting Canes a 2-2 tie after the first period. Dennis Seidenberg, without a point for nine games, had assists on both goals.
Joni Pitkanen's fourth goal of the season, on a blast from just inside the blue line, pushed the Canes ahead 3-2 at 6:21 of the second. Williams assisted on the goal.
The victory is Carolina's third straight, their first three-game win streak since November.
Ryan Craig gave Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead. Yes, Craig, who has been a healthy scratch the last five games and had not scored a goal since November -- of 2007, that is.
The Bolts quickly made it 2-0 on Vaclav Prospal's score at 6:41. Prospal tipped in a Vinnie Lecavalier shot from the slot.
On one play in the first period, Tampa Bay goalie Mike Smith charged out of the net to pass the puck, only to have Carolina's Sergei Samsonov pick it off. But Samsonov couldn't get off a clear shot with Smith scambling to get back in the net.
Defenseman Niclas Wallin is on the ice and will play tonight, with Frantisek Kaberle a scratch. Wallin's last game was Dec. 6 against Philadelphia. He's missed 12 games with an ankle injury. ...
Forward Pat Dwyer, recalled today from Albany, will be used on Brandon Sutter's line, with Wade Brookbank again a scratch. ...

Go to some other paper's
Mon, 01/05/2009 - 01:50 — CanarseGo to some other paper's websites and watch an in game blog. My experience is that it works the same way Chip is doing it. This has to be the whineyest blog I've ever seen!
Actually, all Chip has to do
Mon, 01/05/2009 - 10:16 — robotron2084Actually, all Chip has to do is look at what Luke did last year on this very blog. You can find tons of examples looking through http://blogsarchive.newsobserver.com/canes from last season.
EXACTLY
Mon, 01/05/2009 - 10:52 — piratepike09Exactly. If it was so easy for Luke to make it allsound to fluid, shouldnt be too hard for Chip to do the same.......should it?
maybe so
Mon, 01/05/2009 - 08:37 — piratepike09maybe some other blogs do it the same way, but that doesnt change that it is ANNOYING to read the recap of a game backwards. The game is played from 15:00 of the 1st to 0:00 of the 3rd (+OT and SO if needed) so it would stand to reason that the recap of the game would be presented, so that it can be read, as such. Why would I want to read about what happened in the 3rd period before I read about the start of the game, or the 1st period, or the 2nd period. It just doesn't make any sense. Any id you think this is whining, I am sorry. It is called an opinion, and there is nothing wrong with having one.
In a perfect world
Sun, 01/04/2009 - 07:26 — esteban1949there still would be people who were upset about something.
esteban rolls off towards the micro wave to see if his "instant coffee was done yet ...after waiting 4 mins of the water to get hot enough...But i wouldn't writing and email to rcarter or the IT deparment of the N&O be a better place to ask for a time stamp, than here ? was just "hazarding" a guess here...the Rats won last night, but the Jr. canes and the chiefs lost...bah humbug !
Timestamp
Mon, 01/05/2009 - 08:34 — piratepike09Timestamp wont really make any difference, as we would still be reading it in reverse.
Isn't there some better way
Sat, 01/03/2009 - 21:22 — robotron2084Isn't there some better way of updating a "live" blog entry like this one? It's nice that it keeps getting updated, but it's all sort of out of order and hard to figure out what's new. Even if i read the thing in reverse, it's not quite right since you can't really tell which paragraphs go together.
I e-mailed chip....
Sun, 01/04/2009 - 11:17 — piratepike09a few days ago and brought it to his attention. It bugs me, too, to be reading it backwards. He said it was just how they typed it up as the game went along.
So, what I gather from that is.....it is WAY too hard for the staff at the N&O to just re-sequence things on a typing template and make it actually in chronological order.
Beware asking too much of our media!
A timestamp sure would
