The Hurricanes on Wednesday recalled defenseman Brett Bellemore from the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL.
Bellemore, who has good size at 6-4 and 210 pounds, is in his fourth professional season and will be making his NHL debut. He was a sixth-round pick by the Canes in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Bellemore leads the Checkers in plus-minus (plus-12) and penalty minutes (85) in 62 games this season.
In one other personnel move Wednesday, the Canes placed forward Chad LaRose on injured reserve. LaRose has missed the past nine games with a concussion.

A Raleigh native, Chip has worked at the N&O since 1979 and is the Canes beat writer. He can be reached at

Bellemore

He has added a much more consistent physical edge to his game, including dropping the gloves when appropriate and needed.
I'm especially excited for Bellemore because he's done all the right things to get this call up. He's been a leader for the Checkers and stepped up his game when the Checkers became decimated by injuries. His skating has come along extremely well.
He earned the call up and I hope it goes very well for him.
