Former Canes winger Ryan Bayda has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to various news reports.
Bayda was invited to the Pens' training camp on a tryout. He was offered a two-way contract by the Canes after last season.

Tue, 09/29/2009 - 09:10 — ctillBayda probably looked at the next wave of talent coming up from Albany (Sutter, Boychuk, Bowman, etc) and figured that he had no chance of sticking with the Canes. The contracts of Whitney, Cullen, Walker, and Yelle will expire after this season. One or more of those veterans won't be back for 2010-2011, but Bayda isn't likely to get one of their slots.

Tue, 09/29/2009 - 07:31 — louis12580I think that he'll do well in Pittsburgh. It is sort of funny that he rejected the same kind of offer from the 'Canes. Maybe it came down to money, or that he realized that no one would offer him an NHL only deal. Either way, his leaving gave the team a chance to sign Yelle, adding much needed depth at the center position.
