Several N&O readers complained that their DirecTV feed of Sunday’s playoff game blacked out during the overtime period, only to reconnect after New Jersey had scored the winning goal.
A phone call to DirecTV’s public relations department was not returned Monday. UPDATE: DirecTV spokesman Robert Mercer said he would check into the lost feed with the satellite company's technical operations department.
UPDATE 2: Mercer confirmed the outage, but said he was still investigating the cause. He apologized on behalf of DirecTV to those who missed the end.
Hurricanes' spokesman Kyle Hanlin said he received one complaint.
Kate Hart, with Fox Sports South, said the cause of the problem hasn’t been determined yet.
“We believe it was an isolated issue with DirecTV because we did not get any complaints from cable customers,” said Hart.
At Fox Sports South’s base in Atlanta, Hart said the game was watched in its entirety on DirecTV, and there were no glitches reported at the network’s technical operations center in Houston.

At the wrong moment
Mon, 04/20/2009 - 21:21 — taul1I too missed the game winning goal by about 1 minute of playing time. I did find the SD broadcast but not in time. DirectTV owes some type of explaination.
Directv blows it again
Mon, 04/20/2009 - 18:19 — howellseWe also lost our Directv HD broadcast of the Carolina Hurricanes in the OT period. We had several Caniacs over to watch the game, and needless to say, we were all disappointed with the idiocy of Directv. By the time we found the SD broadcast, the game was over. I have been a Directv customer for the last 10 years, but I am increasingly frustrated with their service the last few years. I never thought I'd say anything positive about the cable company, but their customers were able to see the whole game without being "Heidi'd".
Only HD was lost
Mon, 04/20/2009 - 16:31 — dgsiiincDirecTV's HD feed was dropped at 10:30pm. The SD feed was available until the broadcast concluded.
