UNC's Thorp: Butch Davis is 'our football coach'

Bookmark and Share

Following up on our previous post, UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp today gave football coach Butch Davis a show of support.

In an interview following a meeting with the UNC system's Board of Governors, Thorp said: "There's no information to indicate that he participated in or knew of any wrongdoing. Mr. Baddour and I are not having meetings deciding his future. He's our football coach."

Thorp on Butch:  "I didn't

Thorp on Butch:  "I didn't say he didn't know.  I said there's no evidence he knew."

Yeah, Thorp must really have a lot of trust in Paul.

Wow!

UNC-CH just proved that they could care less about integrity. Thorp is just taking orders from somebody on the UNC BOG. I can seriously say he just lost any respect he had with the academic community. How in the future could they reprimand any student for cheating.

And now it's evident to everyone at UNC-CH has no respect for honesty and or the truth. It's clearly a sad day for the North Carolina University system.

Good

I like it. Just keep bringing in the great recruiting classes and let these lessons be learned so that they don't happen again. What was to be a phenomenal year has now turned into a rebuilding one. That's okay, let's just wright the ship and move on to build for the future.

I wouldn't expect such great

I wouldn't expect such great recruiting classes now that Blake is no longer there.  I'm sure UNC can still bring in a good one here and there (depending on possible probation or other punishments from the NCAA), but don't kid yourself, Blake was the one bringing in the blue chips.

Not necessarily

More than one recruiter at UNC has said Blake came in for the (unnecessary) kill after the nails were in the coffin so he would get the pub. UNC has enough good recruiters on staff to get r done.

I'm aware of that rumor, but

I'm aware of that rumor, but which recruits did that involve?  We know that Austin and Little both committed at the last second, seemingly out of nowhere.  I'm talking about the 5-stars here, not the typical UNC football recruit.

Rumors!?

I see. It is a rumor bc it is UNC. I'm not even going to mess with this.

Yeah, you shouldn't mess

Yeah, you shouldn't mess with it, considering the fact that EVERYTHING negative regarding UNC has been a "rumor" to you.  Why is something factual now all of a sudden because a UNC guy said it was true?  Funny how these stories came out after Blake was labeled as the fall guy too...

When you can only focus on one word of my post, it's obvious that you are in gatr-fantasy land.

I'll believe it when I see it

That's the approach most of us are taking.  Positive or negative.  I'll believe Butch is guilty when it's been proven.  I'll believe that Barnes should be a 1st team All-American when I see it.  I'll believe we'll be bowl eligible until I see it.  Until then, I'm not going to put too much stock into any of it.

I fully agree with that

I fully agree with that approach...as long as it is applied consistently.

ditto

G-ville and Surfer.

hahaha

of course you guys want this to go away, i would too. However its so refreshing that there are more stories coming out, i was getting worried the NCAA had forgotten about little old UNC.

6 visits by the NCAA and 2 by the SoS.  Really upstanding ship they're running over there.

hold on a second

no one says, "this is going away" just bc Butch isn't going anywhere.  those were your words, not ours.

good enough ...

for me.  period.  dot.  the end.

Expect some of the State

Expect some of the State fans on here to get as bent out of shape over this as they did the '09 championship.

It's always about the Heels

It's always about the Heels isn't it?  Well, except of course when the headlines are embarrassing for Carolina...then it's all about State.

The deflection tactics have been thoroughly exhausted

Look at the uproar of your fan base

Actions speak louder than words.

And it's all about state

Like you care so much about what UNC does with their players and coaches!? No, you really care how it negatively effects UNC. You just want to wallow it in like a pig in sh*t.

All anyone cares about in sports, whether collegiate or professional, is their own team they root for. So don't go acting all high and mighty against others and telling them who they think is the only team that matters or exists.

We all make choices. There is still time for you to come on over . Lol

Obviously your statement is

Obviously your statement is false.

If fans only cared about their own team, then why do you guys bring up State and their fans when they aren't even part of this story?  Get over yourself.

My statement is not false

You don't care about UNC unless you are putting them down for whatever reason.

For the most part your comments about UNC are not genuine unlike all your comments about ncsu.

I could care less, but you opened yourself up for these post by me.

it is the world we live in

and fortunately you, me and others here at ACCNow made the right decision as small children when faced with the decision to choose.

I can live with that!

GO HEELS!!

I can live with that!

Isn't that what Agent Johnson said to Agent Johnson when they were about to attack the Nakatomi Plaza building in the first Die Hard? That didn't turn out well for them. In fact, they went down in flames.

Just saying it's not to late to reverse a poor decision made as a misguided youth. Or, to quote Joe Pesci in another of my favorite movies, "misguided "ute""

Loved Die Hard

Unfortunately it was just a movie, JPD.

Vinny

Perhaps, based upon izzy's locale, he is related to Vinny? Cousins maybe? A classic.
