Each year, a small university on Michigan's upper peninsula gets some attention for its annual list of words that really ought to be put out to pasture.
This year, Lake Superior State University's list has a political bent; among those words and phrases on its "List of Words to Be Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness" are "Maverick," and "First Dude," the latter term used during the recent presidential campaign to reference Todd Palin, husband of Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee.

Happy New Year!
