John Roberts, Chief Justice of the United States, is coming to N.C. Central University's law school Tuesday, the happy result of a gutty moment by the law school's dean, Raymond Pierce.
A couple years ago, Pierce crossed paths with Roberts at a circuit court function in West Virginia. He introduced himself and asked Roberts to come and speak in Durham.
Roberts told him that while he doesn't give speeches, he'd be happy to come and preside over a moot court competition.
Two years later, here he is. He'll be on campus Tuesday for a tightly-controlled day of activities that you can read more about in Tuesday's News & Observer.
For now, here's an editorial we ran in today's paper about the chief justice's visit.
