It took just a week for Tookie's Toys to close its final store in Raleigh's Cameron Village.
The local toy shop, which has been a part of the community for nine years, announced its closing on June 4. Slow sales and shrinking profit margins made it impossible to continue, said owners Katherine and John Hodges.
The Cameron Village store started a clearance sale immediately. In an e-mail to its customers Sunday, Katherine Hodges said she has accepted a job as a sales representative for Sandy Ruben and Associates, where she will represent toy manufacturers to retail stores in the Southeast. John Hodges will continue his work as executive director of the Garner Revitalization Association.
In their e-mail Sunday the couple wrote: "We are honored to have played a small part in the lives of you and your children. We've had fun playing with you!"
