SAS, Quintiles make global workplace list

Two of the largest and most successful companies based in the Triangle -- SAS and Quintiles -- have been ranked among the top 25 places to work in the world.

Cary-based business software giant ranked No. 2 in the first-ever ranking of the World's Best Multinational Workplaces compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute. This week SAS also ranked No. 1 in Fortune magazine's list of the best places to work for the second consecutive year.

Durham-based Quintiles, the world's largest pharmaceutical services company, ranked 25th on the list.

The No. 1 ranking went to Microsoft.

To be considered for the list, companies were required to make at least five national great-place-to-work lists, have at least 5,000 employees and have a major contingent of workers outside their home country.

"I am most honored to know that the ranking is based on the feedback of our own employees around the world," SAS co-founder and CEO Jim Goodnight said in a prepared statement. "We simply try to trust and respect people. Everything we do grows out of that philosophy."

Other companies with a Triangle presence that made the list include: NetApp, No. 3; Cisco, No. 6; Marriott, No. 7; McDonald's, No. 8; and Novo Nordisk, No. 22.
