Sara Lee Bakery plans to expand its Tarboro plant and add 45 jobs.
The bakery, located about 75 miles east of Raleigh, already employs more than 800 and produces cheesecakes, croissants and other baked goods.
The $11 million expansion will allow the company to increase production of biscuits and croissants under the Sara Lee and Jimmy Dean brands.
Gov. Beverly Perdue toured the Sara Lee plant on Wednesday afternoon. The company will not receive any incentives from the state to add the new jobs, said Tim Crowley, a spokesman with the governor's office.
Sara Lee expects to hire the new production workers in December, said company spokesman Mike Cummins. He declined to comment on how much the jobs will pay.

Sara Lee Bakery expansion is a blessing
Thu, 08/27/2009 - 05:24 — DexterPHaving heard that the Sara Lee Bakery plans to expand its Tarboro plant and add 45 jobs is such a relief. Well we all know that many are unemployed and most of us take advantage to get cash advance just to survive our financial difficulties, even thou the compensation is quite low, the fact that this will open new job to our community it is a good blessing already. We just hope that this expansion will greatly benefited our mere people so that they will have an income to support their families. Good luck Sara Lee!
