McClatchy Interactive plans to relocate to downtown Raleigh next year and occupy renovated space owned by The News & Observer Publishing Co.
The company will occupy 31,000 square feet in The N&O’s Martin Building, which faces Hargett Street and is currently vacant. The N&O is spending $2.6 million to renovate the building, which once housed the newspaper’s circulation department.
McClatchy Interactive, which employs 128 people, now leases about 36,000 square feet in the Situs office park owned by Highwoods Properties in West Raleigh. The company expects to relocate downtown by September or October of next year.
McClatchy Interactive is owned by The McClatchy Co., the Sacramento, Calif.-based newspaper publisher that owns The N&O, The Charlotte Observer and 28 other daily newspapers.
McClatchy Interactive provides online services for the publisher’s newspapers. It hosts their websites, for instance, and chooses vendors for new features.
