Amy Elk, an Atlanta-area voice actress, has been declared the winner of the second annual "Worst Website Ever" contest.
Elk received 16,543 online votes to win the dubious honor in the contest sponsored by Strategic Guru, a Cary marketing agency. The runner-up was No Sequel Fightwear, a Triangle business that sells martial arts apparel, which garnered 11,846 votes.
The upside: Elk wins a website makeover, valued at $9,000, which will be done by Strategic Guru.
Elk said she has been told many times that her website -- which she created herself -- needed to be revamped. "But I didn't have the money," she added.
Still, in a run-off with last year's contest winner, A&S Computer Services of Wake Forest, A&S would have won hands down, said Chelsea Junget, project manager at Strategic Guru.
Elk's website is "dated, but it works," said Junget. A&S Computer's site, meanwhile, had "almost no functionality."
A total of 28,684 votes were cast, more than double last year's total.
"I think we built up a little momentum," said Junget.
Both this year and last year, the finalists lobbied their friends and families for votes.
