A Mississippi furniture maker plans to open a new plant in Taylorsville and create 128 jobs.
Caye Home Furnishings was lured partly by a $250,000 grant from the state, Gov. Bev Perdue's office announced today.
The company makes living room furniture and other products marketed under the Stratford and Stratolounger brands.
Caye has five manufacturing facilities in Mississippi and Florida, and two in China. In August 2008, it opened one in Star, N.C., which now employs 52 workers.
The new facility, located about 160 miles west of Raleigh, will assemble furniture for customers in the Northeast.
“We chose to locate in this area because of the outstanding workforce and business environment,” said Wayne Stewart, Caye’s chief financial officer, in a prepared statement. “Our company continues to grow even during these challenging economic times and we hope to have the plant operational within the next 30 to 45 days.”
Caye will pay average annual wages of $30,142, not including benefits. That's higher than Alexander County's average annual wage of $27,300.

RE: THE LOCATION OF A NEW MANFANCTURE INTO THIS STATE
Fri, 09/11/2009 - 19:15 — beachbum3While i'll be the first to acknowledge that this state is in dire need of new an better businesses to locate here i personnaly feel that it is a hughe mistake to incentivitize this location for the business community's . for the simply fact that i say if they want to located herethat they will do so with or without hughes state an federal money incentives. just because the labor here an wages over last past 15-18 years have been outsourced an suppressed that about the only other placees available for businesses to locate with a cheaper wage & labor base is or would be china or india. this wages suppression is what this entire recession an outsourcing has been all about from the very begining due to the united state incentenivizing with various tax breaks an grants an other sources of funding to these outsources business all across this country. it is time for the state of n.c to STOP with all of the tax breaks an incentivesizing everything that they can possibly give away to big businesses an i beleive bev is bouth an paid for by big businesses all across this state thank you
