The Raleigh region ranked higher than high-tech hubs such as San Francisco and Seattle on Forbes' first list of America's Most Innovative Cities.
Silicon Valley was No. 1, followed by Austin, Texas, and Raleigh, Matthew Fortner reports on the Tech Junkie blog.
Forbes cited this area's mix of academia and industry, as well as the amount of venture capital and patents per capita.
The Triangle routinely makes such lists, but don't discount their utility. Economic developers say that businesses and individuals often use them when considered where to relocate. In March, Forbes ranked Raleigh No. 1 on its most-wired cities list.
