Five Harris Teeter stores to begin selling lottery tickets this week...

Bookmark and Share

Five North Carolina Harris Teeter stores, including two in the Triangle, will begin selling tickets for select N.C. Education Lottery games this week.

The tickets will be available through automated machines known as Lottery To Go. Games available include the instant scratch-off games Powerball, Mega Millions, Carolina Cash 5, Carolina Pick 4 and Carolina Pick 3, and the Cash Splash Raffle. The machines do not dispense tickets until a buyer scans his or her drivers license to prove that he or she is 18 years or older.

Harris Teeter will join other area grocery store chains including Lowes Foods and Food Lion that sell lottery tickets. Harris Teeter stores already sell lottery tickets in Virginia and Maryland.

The two Triangle-area stores that will sell the tickets are at 2110 S. Estes Drive in Chapel Hill and 500 Oberlin Road in Raleigh. The Chapel Hill store will begin selling them Wednesday, and the Raleigh store will begin selling tickets Thursday. The other three stores are located in Greensboro, Wilmington and Winston-Salem.

Harris Teeter spokeswoman Catherine Reuhl said the company hopes to sell lottery tickets in all of its North Carolina stores by January.
